'Dr Germ' and 'Mrs Anthrax' released from Iraqi jail 19/12/2005 - 12:48:51

Notorious Saddam-Hussein-era officials have been released from jail in Iraq and some have already left the country, an Iraqi lawyer said today.

A legal official in Baghdad said between 24 and 25 top former officials in Saddam Hussein’s government have been freed, including Rihab Taha, known as Dr Germ, and Huda Salih Ammash, known as as Mrs Anthrax.

The Iraqi lawyer, Badee Izzat Aref, said some of those released were his clients.

“The release was an American-Iraqi decision and in line with an Iraqi government ruling made in December 2004, but hasn’t been enforced until after the elections in an attempt to ease the political pressure in Iraq,” Aref said.

Iraqi officials and the US military did not immediately confirm that information.

Lieutenant Colonel Barry Johnson, the spokesman for the US-led Multinational Force, did say that US officials on Saturday released eight people formerly designated as high-value detainees, after a board process found they were no longer a security threat.

No charges had been filed against the eight, Johnson said. He would not identify them.

The legal official in Baghdad, who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the issue, said those released also included Hossam Mohammed Amin, head of the weapons inspections directorate; Aseel Tabra, an Iraqi Olympic Committee official under Saddam Hussein’s late son Odai; General Dhiaa Maher al-Tikriti; Ibrahim al-Ani, an intelligence official; and Hamid al-Janabi, a prison director.

Surely a quid pro quo of some sort took place, otherwise this doesn't make sense.

It was mentioned on Fox this morning, but I don't know if they had a separate source or picked up the news from this paper.

Hmmm. Perhaps they were released so it is easier to put them on The List of Dead Microbiologists:

Two things come to mind.

1) A scientist being controlled by a madman has limited ability to resist. Their family may have been at risk.

2) They could have demonstrated this by giving EVERYTHING they had as soon as Saddam was put under lock and key.

So, we now negotiate with terrorists? They're holding detainees in Gitmo for less than the crimes these two committed.

If they were working for $$ you are right.

If they were working to prevent their entire family lineage from being killed, you are wrong.

Great! Now they can go dig up the hidden WMD and sell it to the terrorists, not to mention that they have the knowledge to make more.

Great. Didn't we just found out that the Iraqis had Zarqawi last year and released him, wasn't that a great idea?! What do they think these former Baath officials with lots of technical knowledge are going to do?

I bet Bin Laden and Zarqawi is on the phone with them already, offering them $$$$$.

All is well with this.
Should it save the lives of British or American captives, I'm all for it. These animals will be tracked down and will meet their demise. Remember that right now torture can not be performed will in official custody. There is no way these demented followers of Mohamed, the murdering pedophile prophet, will slip away.

There is a Dutch businessman on trial right now in the Hague, he supplied Saddam with chemicals in those murders, and hid in Baghdad for 13 years under an Muslim name, he fled to Syria in 03 and was arrested.

I wonder if those released are being protected and will testify against him and Saddam?

No, we did not. We have seen numerous articles claiming that the Iraqis MAY have captured Zarqawi, but they did not know it was him and subsequently released him.

I doubt that either of them will live to see the new year.
