Obviously, you've never read the books. The movie was true to CS Lewis's story. Most of what you cite as negative is simply the genius of Lewis. It was by far the best movie I saw this year.
the book and movie starship troopers really were worlds apart; I think the ST directors/writers wanted to bring in a lot of the action elements of the great book ARMOR by john steakley. The movie story overall really resembles the heinlein book only superficially.
