Canada blames U.S. for gun violence

TORONTO, Ontario (AP) -- Canadian officials, seeking to make sense of another fatal shooting in what has been a record year for gun-related deaths, said Tuesday that along with a host of social ills, part of the problem stemmed from what they said was the United States exporting its violence.

Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin and Toronto Mayor David Miller warned that Canada could become like the United States after gunfire erupted Monday on a busy street filled with holiday shoppers, killing a 15-year-old girl and wounding six bystanders -- the latest victims in a record surge in gun violence in Toronto.

The shooting stemmed from a dispute among a group of 10 to 15 youth, and the victim was a teenager out with a parent near a popular shopping mall, police said Tuesday.

"I think it's a day that Toronto has finally lost its innocence," Det. Sgt. Savas Kyriacou said. "It was a tragic loss and tragic day."

While many Canadians take pride in Canadian cities being less violent than their American counterparts, Toronto has seen 78 murders this year, including a record 52 gun-related deaths -- almost twice as many as last year.

"What happened yesterday was appalling. You just don't expect it in a Canadian city," the mayor said.

"It's a sign that the lack of gun laws in the U.S. is allowing guns to flood across the border that are literally being used to kill people in the streets of Toronto," Miller said.

You mean outlawing the Bible's "hate speech" would hasn't made all Canadians love each other more?

"...allowing guns to flood across the border...

Well, they can't blame lil ol' New Hampshire, 'cause Boston's Mayor "Mumbles" Menino already blamed New Hampshire guns for the rise in homicides in his city.

(Besides, we keep our guns up here in NH...)

Well, I kind of suspected there may be some relation to Canada's aggressive remaking of itself via immigration policies.

The problem is that they know very well what's causing the crime rate to go up, yet they publicly blame us for our gun policies.

So close the border and utopia will be restored....

Exactly right. I believe the Canadians should take all of the money they have been spending on the outdated idea of a standing military and build a really good fence...no, a wall on their southern border!

As I understand it, Jamaican and other imported groups are responsible for most of Canadian "gun crime."

RIGHT. Imported criminals, imported guns from America, and the evils of American evil spreading faster than mad cow disease from Canadian cows. Guess those nice Canadians are the true victims here. Note to Canadian PM...

SHUT THE F UP EH!

Canada traced this gun back to the US in one day?
Maybe, but I'd guess this is just a different flavor of "I hate those American bastards".

That is 77 more than my county has had the last TWO years.

My county has had two murders in 5 years. Neither involved firearms. Getting a carry permit is dirt simple here in Idaho. Lots of people have them. The outdoor range is available 7 X 24 X 365 and is used often.

More likely the ghetto "thug" culture bleeding across the border than guns.

Canada's liberal msm loves to bash & blame America.

America's liberal msm loves to bash & blame America.

Think there's a common denominator here?

Canada has gun control laws. How come they can't prevent gun violence on their own streets? More knee jerk anti-Americanism on display. They can take their disdain towards this country and shove it.

>>>"Two suspects were arrested and at least one firearm was seized soon after the shootings Monday. Kyriacou said it was an illegal handgun.

But failed to offer proof that it was imported from the US"<<<

Would it matter? A Criminal is a Criminal.

New Study...
"How many Criminals LEGALLY own firearms?"

"How many Criminals CARE if THEIR firearms are Legal or not?"

"How many Criminals CARE if firearms are Legal for others?"
(Answer = Many, they don't want their Victims to be armed)

"How many US Senators from Massachusetts would leave their house without an armed escort?
(Answer = ZERO, they are special)
"How many US Senators from Massachusetts would agree with Canada?
(Answer = BOTH, they are anti-anything USA)

Can you imagine any US President issuing the sort of bellicose condemnations and prissy lectures Canada bleats at us? They would be moaning to the UN Security Counsel that an invasion was imminent.

Sometimes the Candaian's anti-US pronouncement's sound like they are coming out North Korea rather than Ottawa. If they start calling Martin "Dear Leader" or refer to South Korea as our "flunkyists" it will be hard to tell them apart.
