I was commenting on a lot of people's mistaken belief that all poodles are toy dogs.Oh, yes. Sorry I misunderstood. You're right. Many people are unaware of the different varieties of poodles.

Actually, the miniatures are pretty tough, too. I know a lady who uses her mini for search and rescue.
I've got a toy, and she's scrappy and smart, but it's pretty clear that she was definitely bred to be a lap dog.

Why not a Collie like Lassie? Our Sheltie pup got lost overnight. Does that count? ;)
(We left a dish of food, water & two vennison bones at the point where we lost him. He was there the next morning but the vennie bones weren't.)

Miniatures are wonderful dogs! I searched for a miniature poodle for months and I couldn't located one around here.

I want a toy poodle so bad!! I intend to get one when my jedis are both in the "Oh, Mom...stop hugging on me!" phase! There's a reputable breeder in the next town from me, where my folks got their two toys. She's got a good reputation of breeding healthy puppies...show dogs and well-breed but not perfect "pets". They come with all kinds of papers certifying their healthy genes.
'Couse, it costs for that kind of security...my folks plunked down a cool thousand for the two of them. I can't afford half that right now. But someday!
Here I am, holding Pepper on the day my mom picked her (but didn't take her home of course, she wasn't weaned.) She was soooo precious!

Awww, baby puppies are so sweet.

Heh...I gave away a lot of my old baby stuff, but I kept my baby sling so I can someday wear my poodle! LOL!!! My jedis think that's pretty funny.

In New Zealand my father in law had a dog that was a cross between the large poodle, water spaniel, and lab. They are breed like that for duck hunting. Quite a dog.

Oh how sweet!
My parents paid a bundle for their two babies...but it's proof that (more than likely) they can continue to afford the best care for them and you know that to a reputable breeder, it's so important.
I'm not in a position financially to provide the very best care for a poodle...much less pay for a well-bred one. Someday I will be, I'm sure...but not now. So I have pet chickens. I give them the best of care, but since there just really isn't too much as far as vet care and such for chickens, when one gets sick, it just dies and that's it. Financially more feasible, in my case. :-)
Still, my chickens have it deluxe, compared to other chickens...warm oatmeal on cold days and warm water. Water with ice in the summer! LOL! Even my meat chickens that I raised solely to butcher had the best 6 weeks any chicken could ask for!
Someday I'm gonna make some poodle a very lucky dog!

And at least for the standard sized poodle they are extremely intelligent and one of my favorite breeds. But the miniatures I make fun of just for the sake of making fun of a stereotype foo-foo ankle-biting yapper.
