'United States planning a military strike against Iran'

The United States government reportedly began coordinating with NATO its plans for a possible military attack against Iran.

The German daily Der Spiegel collected various reports from the German media indicating that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization are examining the prospects of such a strike.

According to the report, CIA chief Porter Gus, in his last visit to Turkey on December 12, requested Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to provide military bases to the United States in 2006 from where they would be able to launch an assault.

The German news agency DDP also noted that countries neighboring Iran, such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, and Pakistan were also updated regarding to supposed plan. American sources sent to those countries apparently mentioned an aerial attack as a possibility, but did not provide a time frame for the operation.

Although Der Spiegel could not say that these plans were concrete, they did note that according to a January 2005 New Yorker report American forces had entered Iran in 2005 in order to mark possible targets for an aerial assault.

Jimmy Carter, appalled at the prospect of the US taking action against Iran, is busy dashing off an 'I hate Bush' piece for some Leftist EU rag. (I hope we have a few Mother of all Bunker Buster bombs squirreled away in the warehouse. Or at least sent some to Israel.)

If we don't already have many contingency plans in the books about how to deal with Iran, our military and government are derelict in their duty!!

I thought we already possess such bases in Iraq...and that obtaining them was one of the reasons we conquered that country.

Can you imagine going to sleep at night, knowing the entire war on terror can be traced back to your own stupidity? Carter will never get over it. Nor should he. 3000 dead Americans on 9/11 and another 2000 since. Thank you, Jimmy.

If Bush doesn't already have a plan in place to strike Iran I would consider it an impeachable offense.
Now, all he has to do is keep Senator Rockefeller from visiting the Middle East so he can't use the opportunity to give all the local dictators a heads up on when and how Bush plans to do it.

I have the feeling that if we do go in, it will be more like Afghanistan than like Iraq but necessarily different from either. Stands to reason.

Nuking them wouldn't help our friends to the East... namely the Afghans and our soldiers there...

What would Jimmy Carter say?

He'd have to find a twelve-year-old girl to consult with before making any public statement. Then he would say he was on the side of the Iranian pipple.

Wait for McMermott and Levin to make the trip! They'll tell us just how wonderful Iran is. While they're there, I'd lob a couple of missiles in, right on top of them.

Reagan, well, this crap wouldn't even be happening if Reagan were President.

The bombing would have begun 5 minutes ago. God bless his memory forever!!!

Well, we're in the neighborhood, anyway. Think of the gasoline we'll save, not having to ferry troops all the way from the USA! Because this is all about the oil, right? That should make the Democr@ps, the EnviroWackos, the Greenies, and every other fringe group you can name happy, no? ;)

Porter Gus?

You caught that. Why didn't the fact-checker at the newspaper? (If they still have fact-checkers).

We probably, nay hopefully, as a matter of national security always have a target list for any country that is important or even unimportant so we can always have a crippling strike capabilty if the time ever arises.
