That's a pretty dumb report. First of all, I don't think your heavy drinkers are necessarily parade watchers. What makes the difference is that the Rose Bowl normally starts around 1:30 PST and it started at 5:30 PST this year because of television. THAT'S why there was more drunkenness - fans had four more hours to drink before the game started. To blame it on the game not being played the same day as the parade is dumb.

SC doesn't rebuild, they just reload.

Well, reload a QB, and 2 running backs...

Go back and read some of your ridiculous posts throughout this thread and then re-read what you just wrote. As I said before, you are a clown.

Let's see, I said...
- USC is a great team
- Reggie Bush will go #1 and will be a great NFL RB
- Pete Carrol is a very good coach and from what I can tell a very nice person
- USC's football tradition is among the very elite
- USC fight song is the best in football
- USC's Song Girls are the best in college football

Yeah, I really said some clownish things. geesh

Look, like I said before, don't treat college football like a cult. Trying to associate yourself with a good team isn't going to make you anymore popular with the girls or give you any additional self esteem.

Just enjoy watching the games and discussing them with others that might view them a little differently. Don't take anything you read personally as it doesn't matter how many championships USC wins because it surely won't affect you.

So no matter how many USC t-shirts you buy or how many Trojan bumperstickers you put on your car or bike, you're still going to be just you - whatever glory USC players obtain, wearing fanboy apparel and putting posters in your room isn't going to transfer any of that glory to you.

The AP championship is bogus. All the colleges agreed that the BCS Championsship is the one and only recognized College Football National Championship.

Huh? The BS has about as much credibility as Anna Nicole Smith's fat boobs. You have a short memory.

Did you forget about Nebraska going to the national championship in 2002 despite the fact they got their ass handed to them in the conference championship game to Colorado? Moreover, USC should have gone to the title game in 2003. There are many more examples of the same kind of thing occurring every two out of three years. The AP poll is probably more legitimate than the BS system, because it isn't based on a bogus pairing that leaves out another possible contender that is just as good if not better than the two teams picked.

However, the only real LEGITIMATE championship is one that is a full out playoff - 16 teams, win or go home. Don't ever try to make a case for the BS. That is laughable.

Doesn't matter because the BCS is the agreement that all of the teams signed on to. The AP is just a third party group of guys that votes.

The AP had USC ahead of Texas much the year, yet they were wrong. The BCS is the college version of a playoff system - it's not perfect but it is the system that Southern Cal and Auburn agreed to.

Last year, Auburn would have had a good claim to the national title under the old system but they signed on to the BCS to they have no claim no matter what some polls might say. The same goes for USC in 2003.

Correction. It's the agreement that SIX conferences agreed to, and it's far from perfect. The reason for this agreement? Well, of course, greed and money. The six conferences would have to share the money (although a bigger pot) with schools outside of those conferences, instead of getting the guaranteed money they currently receive and is kept away from the other schools. No excuses should be made for the lousy system we currently have with BS (pun intended).

They are one and the same. The presidents of the university control the conferences. If USC doesn't like being part of the PAC-10 then they can break away.

If USC doesn't want to be part of the BCS then why did they play in BCS bowls the last 3 years?

Auburn signed on to the agreement so they have nothing to complain about last year despite going undefeated. USC signed on to the BCS so they have nothing to complain about in 2003.

BTW, the Rose Bowl and PAC-10 signed onto the BCS late - I think two or three years after its inception. The PAC-10 had plenty of time to study the BCS and decide whether it wanted to join or not - its member schools decided it was a good idea. It's not a great system, but it is the system that the PAC-10 and its member schools signed on to.

USC can go along with the system when it suits them and then disavow it when it is inconvenient. USC should not have accepted the BCS trophy last year if it didn't want to be part of the system.

And another thing, the BCS doesn't bring the bigger schools any more money than the old system. Teams from the big conference dominated the bowls in the past anyway.

You're not reading what I'm saying. I'm not talking about USC! I talking about OTHER teams from other conferences that don't even get a chance under the current system. All of the money goes to those six conferences, unless there's a playoff system. Then there would be a more equitable sharing of the money. But the so-called elite SIX will have none of that.

I think that is a photoshop...he is raising money to put it up outside USC...

from the website

I am collecting donations to purchase billboard space on a high-traffic road near the USC campus in Los Angeles. Check out the "Forum" link up top for other potential uses of funds raised beyond our goal.

All donations made via the paypal link below will be used to set the record straight. If we do not reach our goal (or come close enough to at least purchase a 30-sheet billboard -- pricing details to be posted soon) all money will be refunded. Paypal allows me to send refunds for up to 60 days. Seeing as this is a time-sensitive message we are sending our friends in So. Cal, I hope to have the billboard up well before then.

I talking about OTHER teams from other conferences that don't even get a chance under the current system.

Your original post was about USC sharing a championship.

Your above point is wrong anyway. A team from outside the 6 conferences can play in the BCS if they are ranked high enough. If a team like Miami-Ohio was ranked in the top two in the final BCS rankings then it would play in the BCS championship game.

The bottom line is that the PAC-10, of which USC is a member institution, agreed when it signed the BCS contract that the BCS championship game would crown the national champion. The AP Poll was a component of the BCS poll and nothing more. Before the PAC-10 joined the BCS then a team in the position of 2003 USC would have had a solid argument.

The SEC, of which Auburn is a member institution, signed the same deal so Auburn and its 2004 13-0 team have to live with the outcome of the agreement.

Trying to question the underlying motives of the BCS is fruitless as it is totally irrelevant to the topic at hand. It is not clear why you are trying to muddy the waters of the discussion (was USC truly national champions in 2003) by bringing up minor conferences and how money is allotted.
