That's what I was thinking.

The Ruskies were especially good at 'martyring' those who strayed from the party line.

interesting where it took place. i think northwest iran has a "kurdish problem".

even if this really *was* a typical planecrash, there is a lot more to this story than is being told...

one must also assume that it may be pure disinformation and these guys are still alive but off doing something sinister...

IRAN’S REVOLUTIONARY GUARDS MAKING A BID FOR INCREASED POWER
Kamal Nazer Yasin 5/19/04 .....

Others believe the Revolutionary Guard commanders may be overplaying their hand, and thus could soon be subject to action designed to curb their political ambitions.

Probably just good ol-fashioned Islamic pinheadism. Like when the nutjob Jihadists couldn't get their F-14's working after all the Grumman techs left and took some parts with them. Probably only had to take the stepladders and ignition keys.

The irony is it could be true, assuming it is possible to successfully tamper with the fuel gauge on such a plane.

Plane crashes seem to be a favorite world-wide for cleaning up domestic politlcal problems. I guess because there is usually no hard evidence left that is not strictly controlled by government investigators, if any at all.

Whenever I see this headline regarding a socialist country I assume coup or counter-coup, generally the government itself cleaning house or announcing a change in policy.

Just about the time I start to feel smug I remember Ron Brown's unfortunate airplane trip.

Don't all airplane crashes result in .45 inch holes?
