I am so glad that Bush went to bat for old Spector in the elections, I mean what would we do with out him?/sarcasm.

Can't say that I am surprised. Bush shouldn't be either.

I don't think that Santorum's cause is anywhere near lost. This seat is certainly worth fighting for, and yes, spending money on.

Here's my prediction on the Santorum-Casey rac, which I wrote last year but see no reason to change: http://auh2orepublican.blogspot.com/2005/08/rick-santorum-vs-bob-casey-jr.html

president's executive powers as Commander-in-Chief cannot be limited by statute.

While it is generally accepted that there are certain inherent powers in commanding the armed forces, what these are is not specified in the Constitution. Certainly no sane person would say that the President has the inherent power to summarily execute critics of the war, even if that would make victory more likely.

Just what the inherent powers are is defined by legislation and by Supreme Court decisions. I agree that if the restrictions these branches impose get ridiculous, the President has the right to ignore them, at the possible peril of impeachment and civil war, of course. But, if they are not clearly ridiculous, then the President IMHO must abide by them.

The whole point of FISA was to impose restrictions on the executive branch to protect our freedom, which is, after all, what we are fighting for. They are quite reasonable, giving the executive 72 hours after spying on someone to get a warrant in extreme circumstances. Furthermore, if the President wanted the power to do what he did, he could have requested it in the Patriot Act. If the Congress chose to deny him that power, that would be tough for him, because the executive serves the people via their Congress, not the other way around.

Why don't you read the article before slamming ole Arlen? This is a case where the Treason media is just faking it again. Arlen did not "raise" this issue but was responding to a question of theory.

I think you underestimate the scope of the problem.

Although the judiciary plays no direct role in impeachment proceedings, beyond providing the "judge", it will play a very important role in the many legal proceedings likely to be involved in indictments, lawsuits, court orders, etc., that will issue due to possible felonies being committed by the executive branch, which includes many persons besides the President. Nixon wasn't impeached, but he was forced to resign as underling after underling was indicted and convicted.

Your insinuation implicit in referencing my "liberal buddies" is simply ignorant.

My apologies for not being clear. Most of us have liberal "buddies" who are always questioning us about the evil Bush administration. I'm always on the lookout for how to answer them.

There was no insinuation intended other than that you too (not you in particular, but the generic "you" meaning "not me") might have the need for answers to liberals who associate with us.

For a couple of years I had a liberal pen-pal. We exchanged e-mails about all sorts of news, I remember extended arguments on the SOTU even before Wilson. Anyway, eventually his wife got involved, and then she told me to stop writing because I upset her husband too much and she thought I was too evil and not at all a good person for him to talk with.

Pretty much what I would expect from a liberal. But I had gotten a lot out of that relationship, and always held hope that I was getting through at least on the subconscious level. I had some good dissertations on why the Federal Government should not be involved in regulating the meaning of "organic" on organic foods, pointing out for example that since the feds had defined the terms, it allowed the national companies to overrun the mom-and-pop outfits who were previously protected by the mere presence of state-by-state differences in the rules.

He never got it.
