It is critical to remember that in Islam you can’t simply ask Allah for forgiveness, he requires action not remorse. Mohammed was a prophet not a savior so you can’t ask him for forgiveness or salvation either.
However the Koran does offer a path to salvation and redemption through jihad. Engaging in jihad is the only way to be forgiven for all your past sins.
This is an often an overlooked element of Islam, but it does explain some things .

BERLIN: British author Salman Rushdie said the West had failed to grasp the extent to which Islamic extremism was rooted in men's fear of women's sexuality, in an interview to be published Thursday. Rushdie told German weekly magazine Stern that his latest novel, "Shalimar the Clown," dealt with the deep anxiety felt among many Islamic men about female sexual freedom and lost honor. When asked if the book drew a link between "Islamic terror and damaged male honor," Rushdie said he saw it as a crucial, and often overlooked, point.
"The Western-Christian world view deals with the issues of guilt and salvation, a concept that is completely unimportant in the East because there is no original sin and no savior," the author said, in comments printed in German.
"Instead, great importance is given to 'honor.' I consider that to be problematic. But of course it is underestimated how many Islamists consciously or unconsciously attempt to restore lost honor."
When asked why he probed the issues in his new novel in the context of a love triangle, he said: "It has a lot to do with sexual fear of women."
Rushdie, 58, said that much of the anger toward the West was provoked by that split on sexual issues. "(It is) because Western societies do not veil their women. Because they do not defuse this potential danger," he said. The Indian-born Rushdie, who lives in New York with his fourth wife Padma Lakshmi, told Stern that he has lived without security protection for seven or eight years.
"I go where I please," he said. "I went to India often in the last few years, which I enjoyed."
Rushdie was forced into hiding after the late Iranian spiritual leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa, or religious edict, in 1989, calling for his execution because of alleged blasphemy and apostasy in his novel "The Satanic Verses".

Of course female circumcision is related to misogyny. 'Control women' is all-encompasing. Only Judeo-Christianity, among the great religions, elevates women as child-bearers and puts them within the protective circle of the husband-protected family.

I've said this for years. I think the proposal is to liberate the women of the Muslim world. Only when their wives have sex with the UPS guys (like western wives), will peace be achieved.
I'm presenting it as a joke, but I am serious. The westernization of the Islamic world (for better and worse) will be the best avenue to lasting stability.

So, what a blessing it is to have knowlege of A Savior.
Our whole Western-Christian paradigm includes the cycle: fall/guilt/shame/repentance/redemption/forgivness. Without a knowlege of A Savior there is only fall, guilt, shame.....shame...... and you are stuck!, and then, according to Rushdie, only revenge or self destruction to even the score. What a bleak way to live "if issues of guilt and salvation... (is) completely unimportant" in the Arab World as Rushdie says. Then we do completely underestimate their sense of shame without a knowlege of A Savior.
He deserves our concern because he is a person who may lose his life to insane Islamists. I hope you don't think that life is less valid if one is a liberal.
