If you want to contact the proper authority to protect everyone, that is the attorney general. I also think the media might be interested. Forward your post to the TV and newspaper. You might be interested in knowing that you can get them to stop bothering you. Reply in writing that they are not to contact you again invoking the Fair Debt Collection Act.

In accordance with the Miller Act and the Department of Labor, Mr. A. Falanga and his company "CREW69",

I bet you wouldn't hire a company called CREW69, but it looks like the government did.

If it is just an notice to lein, that is not that uncommon a practice for costruction Companies. In effect, it puts a legal claim on your home, that must be satisfied before the property can close at sale or at refinance. It's a good legal tool that protects a subcontractor in a case like this. This is just my opinion, and not my legal advice to you.

I would encourage you to get professional, legal advice in your local area immediately, and to always do so as soon as possible wheever you get a notice like that from anyone. best of luck to you...

how in the h*ll can they charge $11,076.60 for two tiny pieces of tarp?!?

Good question. I was going to say, you could get a whole new roof for less than that and apparently you did!

I live in Palm Beach, and they can't take your home. They can only collect if you sell. I would contact the news, the company, and FEMA. I know a letter like that can freak you out, but you have all the time in the world to work this out. ( Unless you planed on moving)

Personally, I’d put a lean on the contractor's house and the contractor’s mothers house and tell him to go f#k himself if he ever expected to see a dime, but what do I know…

I looked up Falanga. I don't don't know if it means anything here but it's a type of torture.

Contact Charlie Crist's office...especially since they are charging you (or FEMA) an exorbitant amount. Go to:

http://www.myflorida.com

And while you're at the site, drop an email to Jeb too...he reads his own email.

Florida Wins refunds for Hurricane Ivan homeowners

This article sounds like the Florida Attorney General has punished firms in prior hurricanes for posting liens on consumers property. From what you wrote, it doesn't appear that the company ever billed you, so it seems to be pretty close, and I would assume that FEMA would replace the insurance companies. Contact the AG's office, and good luck.

Too bad it wasn't during the Clinton administration, it would have been a lot funnier...

KEEP the FEMA paperwork! DO NOT GIVE YOUR COPIES TO ANYONE EXCEPT YOUR ATTORNEY!

Now, that I am done screaming at you to remain in control of any and all paperwork that you received from FEMA. If FEMA or anyone else demands a copy of the paperwork you hold, get certified copies of it and send them the copies.

On Monday, call FEMA and legal services and your Congressman. Tell your Congressman that you are needing some Congressional weight put behind your request that FEMA pay their bills. Ask that his office make a phone call and follow it up with a letter.

The FEMA representative and the Congressional staffer that you talk to, write his/her name down and the time you spoke to him/her for further reference. Keep notes of the conversations.

I really hope this is a scam and that taxer payers aren't paying 11000 dollars for tarps that you can get at Walmart for under 50 dollars.

FEMA does not have a great record in South Florida, use my previous link and get the media involved, then contact our local rag, The Sun Sentinel, who seems to have a huge hard on for FEMA and get them involved.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

P.S. Get a lawyer involved.
