George Bush's Campaign Team Joining John McCain

With the 2008 presidential election less than three years away, more than a few members of President Bush's campaign team have begun to migrate to the current GOP frontrunner, Sen. John McCain.

According to Newsweek magazine, Mark McKinnon, Bush's longtime media adviser, has told the president he's ready to leap aboard McCain's "Straight Talk Express," unless brother Jeb or Condoleezza Rice change their minds and get into the race.

Among Bush fundraisers, the biggest catch, says Newsweek, is Tom Loeffler, a former congressman from San Antonio, who is a Bush-family loyalist and helped build Bush's money machine in 2000.

Ron Weiser, who was Bush's finance chairman in Michigan in 2000, has also joined McCain.

However, in a bizarre observation considering the Arizona maverick's frontrunner status, McKinnon told Newsweek: "I'd rather lose with McCain than win with somebody else."

Other presidential hopefuls scouting for campaign talent include Tennessee Sen. Bill Frist, Virginia Sen. George Allen and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Notably absent from the competition: former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who was leading McCain in most GOP presidential preference polls last year - but has done little to advance a presidential bid lately.

I know FL's Favorite Gov has already said he's not running in 2008, but I also notice someone's already got the JEB 2008 bumper stickers for sale HERE.

One of Murphy's laws: "The light at the end of the tunnel is the headlight of an oncoming train."

Looking for a Republican train wreck in '08. McCain is a RINO with less charisma than Bob Dole.

President Bush has a lot of political "capitol", doesn't he?

However, McCain will attract a lot of Dem voters who hate Hillary.

The most important concern that I and I believe all conservatives should have for 2008 is keeping Hillary and Bill out of a return engagement in the White House. If that means supporting McCain, then I will vote for him. While I do not like McCain's position on many domestic issues, he is strong on defense and national security. Therefore, he is much much preferable than the Clintons. We conservatives should not be like the Naderites who thought algore was not 'pure' enough. Clearly we are smart enough to recognize that McCain is much better for the country than another dose of the Clintons.

Thanks...I chuckled when I saw it.

I have no doubt Jeb has no desire to run but at the same time I think he would be well received by a lot of people who can look beyond his name and look at him on his own merits.

I wonder why Newsweek didn't report on the size of McKinnon's bong.

Same here!

Press & Dems love Mccain ... They are salivating right now.

Remember how joyous they were over trumped up charges in TX on Delay

From the time Mccain becomes the nominee, all that we will here is "Keating 5 tainted John Mccain"

McCain is too old, he has a history of cancer, there is no way he's going to be president. Too bad he hasn't figured that out yet.

Re your post #52 - I respect what he has already said, too, but, I also believe what you do -- if he ran, he would win.

He would certainly win FL, and that's now 10% of the electoral votes right there, since the state is now #3 in population and has even more electoral votes.

I also think he would charm the whole country and blow away his competition, whomever it was. They would be forgotten just as quickly as Bill What's His Name, the Dem opponent Gov Bush squashed in his historic relection in 2002. (First GOP gov ever to win a 2nd term in this state.)

Maybe I will buy one of those JEB 2008 bumper stickers... :)
