Are homosexuals mentally ill?

In spite of its difficult problems, life is complex, amazing, stimulating and worthwhile. I regard it as mentally disturbed to risk it for the core ideal of homosexuality. There is quite a good case that some male homosexuality falls in this category since at least 20% of male homosexuals still regularly risk their lives with unsafe sex, one of the most extreme risks practiced by any significant fraction of society. I have so far not found any similar-sized group prepared to risk such a high rate of death. In its most extreme form then, I think homosexuality is a mental illness in its own right, but few therapists will see clients in that category because such clients will have already taken their first steps away by concluding that the lifestyle is not their fundamental ideal. However therapists should check for some of the other mental problems which are associated with the lifestyle, and refer clients as necessary.

In conclusion, if we ask the question “Are homosexuals mentally ill?” the answer at this point would have to be “You will need to check case by case, and see”.

If a psychiatrist affirms that an individual is a danger to self and others that individual may be incarcerated indefinitely without trial or other recourse in most jurisdictions. An "insane homophobic syndrome patient" could be put away for ever without habeas corpus, no accusation, nothing.

head out of the sand? What is the point of talking about the romans and greeks? Dead societies are still dead even if the affects of their culture can still be felt. I'm not sure what the point of all of it is. . . But I have read a lot of this thread and maybe I'll go back to see who brought up the greeks and romans and why.

It is interesting to watch people pretend that homosexuality did not exist until the 1960's. These people should learn about the ancient Greeks and Romans.

It seems that you brought it up, however I don't recall anyone saying in the replies or original post that homosexuality didnt exist until the 60's. It seems youve hijacked this thread and led it off on a tangent that vaguely if at all applies to the pressing issue of making homophobia a mental disorder.

The empires of the past had homosexuals and bath houses,so what. They contributed philosophy, art, and science but how does it apply. Youre gonna have to bring your argument a little closer to home. Homosexuals have been around forever just as liars have been around forever, but the point is that the thought that we should cater to the choose to be gay homosexual is on the incline and its ridiculous, so much so that now there are those who are entertaining the notion of declaring that a mental disorder exists if one chooses not to support a certain behaviour, its idiotic. I'm a gay hater if I don't see BBM or I dont want to patronize a openly gay establishment? I have a mental disorder that needs to be treated with drugs? No amount of drugs are going to remove the truths that I have stored in my head, homosexual is not normal or acceptable in my mind. I dont hate the practitioners but I am not going to knowingly support them.

This term is probably the most outrageous invention of the "gay" sophists. the illogic of homophobia is insultingly blatant.The term "homophobia" is a made-up term, created by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance to try and make wrong the hudreds of millions of people throughout the world who are thuroughlly apalled and disgusted by the sexually psychotic morally insane lifestyles promoted by them.

"Homophobia" indicates a "fear" of sexual perversion. One does not have to "fear" dog crap to not want to eat it, play with it, sexualize it or otherwise oppose and ridecule those that do.

Originally, homophobia was psychiatric jargon invented to describe a person's fear of homosexual inclinations in him or herself. "Gay" activists simply stole the term and redefined it as "hate and/or fear of homosexuals."

As a rhetorical weapon, homophobia is unequaled. It serves first to define anyone who opposes the legitimization of homosexuality as a hate-filled bigot. The universal inclusion of all opponents as homophobic is of course not emphasized. Homosexual activists publicly associate this label with violent "gay bashers" and hateful fanatics. When they use the term they want people to think about the killers of Matthew Shepard, but in conventional practice they include every man, woman and child who believes homosexuality is abnormal or wrong.

Secondly, the term defines opposition to homosexuality as a mental illness. "Gay" activists take special delight in this since it was scant decades ago that homosexuality was listed as a mental disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Psychiatry (removed by the political maneuvering of homosexual activists in a 1973 vote of the members of the American Psychiatric Association without one shred of scientific evidence proving homosexual behavior to be a normal immutable human attribute).

Thirdly, the term serves as the semantic equivalent of "racist," helping the "gay" movement to further indoctrinate the public with the notion that opposition to homosexuality is equivalent to prejudice against racial minorities. The use of the term is in itself religious discrimination because it implicitly disparages and declares illegitimate the religious teachings of several major world religions. Adoption of the term by government constitutes a prima facie violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment, which prohibits the endorsement or inhibition of religion.

While Paul brags about how great the Romans were, he fails to mention other less desirable behavior thought to be fashionable by the Romans.For example: how aristocratic families in the late Roman Republic would have vomitoriums built in their homes, just so that they wouldn't have to stop engorging themselves with food, meanwhile most poor subjects under the rule of the great Roman empire often starved.

It's not "won't see a physician because they're homosexual," rather it's feels threatened by..." You can be repulsed by behavior without feeling threatened. I wouldn't want a bunch of smelly non-bathers in my workplace and it wouldn't be because I feel threatened. It's just gross.
