Member of Marines not 'sort of person UW wanted to produce'

The University of Washington's student senate rejected a memorial for alumnus Gregory "Pappy" Boyington of "Black Sheep Squadron" fame amid concerns a military hero who shot down enemy planes was not the right kind of person to represent the school.

Student senator Jill Edwards, according to minutes of the student government's meeting last week, said she "didn't believe a member of the Marine Corps was an example of the sort of person UW wanted to produce."

If I were a war hero, I would not want honor of any kind on that campus....even if it were my alma mater. I was born and raised in the northwest - school WSU. There are days like this I would not mind if the NW just dropped out of sight one day (save for our FReepers, mind you). And to be further petty, I was not sad when the Seahawks lost the Super Bowl - it was just as well that these kind of people in Seattle didn't have anything to smile about. Other than that, I didn't have a dog in the Super Bowl. /rant over No, it's not - this makes me furious and sad at the same time.

Just fine, I imagine....
Folks without principal, pride, character or commitment to the IDEALS of this republic -- are very "malleable"...

Like lead -- they have been hammered into the leftist mold..
Like lead -- they will take any shape "necessary".

Hell, most of these gals and girlyboys may enjoy being comfort whores for an invading Army - it might possibly be the first time most of them had sex with a winner..

Every college or university I ever attended had a student government and college newspaper far far far left. At Purdue I suspect Bush easily won the votes of the general student population yet the Student Government sounded like it represented Burkley in the 1960's.

In which case, I'm not sure I believe that Student senator Jill Edwards is an example of the sort of person UW should produce.

In war, killing is a necessary evil. ... But I do not believe our honor of him should focus upon the evil, regardless of how necessary. Instead it should focus on his heroism, courage, and all that he endured for his country. by Karl D. Smith.

I wonder how one becomes a military hero without, in one way or another, killing the enemy.

Say, Student Senator Jill, did you bother to ask the student body -- whom you supposedly represent in that democratic organization -- what they think about the memorial...or is this your fiat, thrust upon them from your dictatorial throne?

Yep, put it to a student vote, you chirping little bird.

Whatever happened to your slogan: "I WANT MY DEMOCRACY NOW!!!"

Oh, you should see how the student senate is made up at UW. It has nothing to do with representation of the students. It is based on assigning seats based on 'diversity' brackets. Basically the student senate is a useless body and it has been disbanded before. Its only real power is to insult Medal of Honor awardees.

Outrage.

And by that, I mean 90 pt. bold type OUTRAGE. And by that, I mean these college pukes don't deserve their education. They don't deserve their freedoms. They don't deserve their pampered, spoiled, safe and peaceful lives. They deserve the kind of existence that can only be found in a third-world, dictatorial regime - like Iraq under Saddam - where people were lowered feet-first into plastic shredders for the amusement of sadists.

If Jill Edwards has parents, they should be ashamed of the very lousy job they did raising their idiot daughter.

Tyrants across the globe are undoubtedly laughing at how they have transformed a nation of Free riflemen into a nation of selfish weaklings. All without firing a shot.

That's the bad news.

The good news is there are still enough riflemen left here to ruin the day of any would-be tyrant.

Happy you enjoyed it...
Our left coast crazies are the looniest on the planet...

I've read a little about Col. Boyington...
He was an alcoholic, self promoting climber and many of the men he led have spoken out against him.
Nevertheless, they acknowledged he was a fine combat pilot.
He was a man with clay feet....like all of us...
He was no saint...

That being said...
He was was a hell of a pilot, and did more than his fair share of fighting....
This country would be well served to have more like him.....perhaps a little more sober.

Warriors are not meant to be the gentlemen sweet little old ladies invite to sit on the porch in Charleston and sip Mint Juleps.....
Hmmm.. though I have known such women that KNOW how to handle such men in polite company...

For his own school to refuse him a place of honor - diminishes the school - not Col. Boyington..

To: bamahead

Here is Boortz's excellent piece...

HE FOUGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY ... BUT HE'S NOT WORTHY.

His name was Gregory Boyington. Some called him "Pappy." He served as a combat pilot in World War II with the 1st Squadron, American Volunteer Group. This squadron was known as the Flying Tigers of China. Boyington later served as a combat pilot for the U.S. Marine Corps. He commanded Marine Fighting Squadron 214. Perhaps you've heard of this squadron. It was called the Black Sheep Squadron and was later featured in a TV series called "Baa Baa, Black Sheep." Boyington shot down 26 Japanese aircraft while serving in the Pacific. He was later shot down and spent 20 months in a Japanese POW camp. For those of you who aren't up to par on World War II history, Japanese POW camps were not happy places. Torture .. .and we mean real torture, not stripping them naked and taking snapshots. After the war Pappy Boyington was awarded the Navy Cross and the Medal of Honor. He died in 1988. You can visit his grave in Arlington National Cemetery.

Education? Oh yes! Almost forgot! Pappy Boyington was a graduate of the University of Washington. Just recently the idea of erecting a memorial to this Medal of Honor winner at the University of Washington made its way to the student senate. Here you have an alumnus who served in World War II. was captured and held, and was later awarded the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. Perhaps some sort of monument would be a good idea!

Well .. not to Jill Edwards. Thanks to the folks at WorldNetDaily we can show you a copy of the minutes of a meeting of the student senate at the University of Washington. Under old business there was a discussion of a resolution calling for a tribute to Pappy Boyington. Student senate member Jill Edwards immediately moved to table the resolution. She wanted other issues to be considered. Another member said that the issue was at the top of the agenda and should be dealt with. Jill's motion failed, but she wasn't through. There was then some discussion on why Andrew Everett, another student senate member, wanted the memorial. Everett responded that Colonel Boyington "had many of the qualities the University of Washington hoped to produce in its students." Well, I guess that might be true, if leadership and courage are considered to be good qualities. Anyway ... that's when Jill Edwards spoke up and showed her true colors. She questioned whether it was appropriate to honor a person who killed other people. Then the lovely Jill Edwards said that a member of the Marine Corps was not an example of the sort of person the University of Washington wanted to produce.

Shall I repeat that? Jill Edwards, a Junior in Mathematics at the University of Washington, says that a U.S. Marine is not the example of the sort of person that the University of Washington wants to produce. Let's let this sink in. To all of you men and women out there who have served with pride in the United States Marine Corps; to those of you who fought in World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Middle East, Jill Edwards, student senate member at the University of Washington, thinks that you are unworthy to be graduates of the University of Washington. My father was a Marine. He's buried in the National Cemetery at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas beneath a grave market that reads "Neal A Boortz, Sr. Lt. Col. USMC. World War II, Korea, Vietnam." Therefore, I think that Jill Edwards is an ignorant fool. I would submit that Jill Edwards is am embarrassment to the University of Washington. With her mathematics degree and her leftist outlook on life my guess is that she'll end up being a teacher in a government school. Oh goody.

By the way .. there's at least one more moonbat on the U of W student senate. Her name is Ashley Miller. Ashley says that there are already enough monuments at UW commemorating "rich white men." Well .. I guess you have to get that wealth-envy stuff in there somewhere.

Don't you just love these young people? They're so much fun to watch during those magic years when they know everything and when they have all of the answers to every problem facing mankind. As I said the other day, we should take 100 volunteer members of university student senates from across the country --- and let's make sure Jill Edwards is one of them --- and give them a country to run for four years. Haiti would do just fine.

Semper Fi

If the University of Washington doesn't see fit to honor one of its alumni, a Medal of Honor winner and National Hero, then they should not receive any Federal Funding Whatsoever, even if it means losing the ROTC units there. Not one dime of my tax dollars show go to this institution of lower living.

But alas, the White House and Congress are too Cowardly and/or Lazy to ever give the thought of withholding Federal Funds to any anti-american institutions much thought.

Just the thought of watching at least half of these tenured, commie, half wit professors laid off and forced to find a real job would make all the handwringing worth it.

I would laugh my head off if the President and Congress ever found the Courage to actually just propose that Federal Funds be withheld from these types of "Educational Institutions". The Commies would be seen jumping off their Dorm Roofs.

From today's edition of The Daily:

"Senate members received hateful phone calls and e-mails after their personal information was posted on Internet sites and blogs. ASUW vice president Ashley Miller said she received between 50 and 100 threatening letters from people outside the UW community. Miller was one of the main contributors to the resolution's debate."

Cry me a river.

ASUW has now moved on to more important things like supporting raced based admissions and giving financial aid to drug abusers.

"Following commentary about last week's meeting, the senate read and passed a resolution in support of holistic admissions.

The resolution, sponsored by graduate student Will Rasmussen, opposes proposed ballot Initiative 914, which states that "public and private entities" -- including the UW -- cannot take race, sex, economic background or nationality into admissions consideration. The passed resolution displays official ASUW approval of the current holistic process.

(snip)

"Senior Karl Smith, introduced a resolution opposing financial-aid denial to students with past drug convictions. The resolution will go through its second reading next Tuesday."

No problem. It's not just "the South", tho - warriors do not have to be mere aggressive brutes. In fact, better they aren't - you can't control them, and that means nothing but a bitter & brutal society. (Hhmm, that's just like what we say about police dogs - you can't have a "mean" dog, they are out of control and nothing more than beasts; the best warrior dogs are bold but stable and controllable.)
