Wouldn't be surprised that this is the reason this very old story is now front and center in our Old Media Centers. The Democrat/media/union complex muddying the waters once again.

Oh I know it is .. the Dems are too obvious

But that doesn't relieve my fears about all that is going on

There is a great interview with Hugh Hewitt here: http://www.hughhewitt.com/ It is an interview with an expert on Port Security. You don't have to keep apologizing for suspecting a bad thing here, I'm not sure of this at all myself........I still trust W on the WOT, that's my main issue. Heh....Howlin showed me how to do this link.........:-)

+ Prescott Bush (father of George) made his fortune by financing the war effort of Adolph Hitler together with his banking partners and fellow "bonesmen" Averell and Roland Harriman. Prescott was stripped of his holdings in the Union Banking Corporation in 1942 under the "Trading with the Enemy Act".

Guess W is just continueing the family enterprise. He's sold out the war.... dealing with our enemies.

Prescott Bush and the Financing of the Third Reich

In 1920 a unit of W.A. Harriman & Co. took effective control of a German shipping line, the Hamburg-Amerika shipping company. The Harriman unit was named American Ship and Commerce Corp., and run by George W. Bush's grandfather, Prescott Bush, and Prescott Bush's father-in-law, George Herbert Walker. During Hitler's rise to power the U.S. embassy in Berlin expressed concern to Washington at the cost of Hitler's political campaign, and of maintaining the Nazi army of more than 300,000 men, and raised questions about the source of funding. In George Bush, the Unauthorized Biography, authors Webster Tarpley and Anton Chaitkin, write that the embassy reported the Hamburg-Amerika shipping company was funding propaganda attacks against the seated German government, for its attempts to prevent Hitler's takeover.

Hamburg-Amerika line officials working through Harriman U.S. businesses attempted to use their influence to prevent anti-Nazi propaganda in the U.S, as well. In 1934 Congress heard testimony that employees of the New York office were actually part of the Nazi Labor Front organization, that the line provided free travel to people on Nazi propaganda business, and that they subsidized pro-Nazi publications in the U.S.

The United States entered World War II early in 1942. In August of that year the U.S. government's Office of Alien Property Custodian, operating under the Trading with the Enemy Act, seized all property of the Hamburg-Amerika line. Two months later the same agency seized the Union Banking Corporation, of which Prescott Bush was a director. At the time, shareholders included Prescott Bush, E. Roland Harriman, and several Nazi agents.

But he does not allay my concerns that the ovverall burden on the security forces has to increase when a foreign company based in an Arab country with a significant history of al Qaeda operations takes over a port. The Admiral correctly points out that American security depends on extending our borders out far beyond our geographical borders in terms of intelligence collection and cooperation with friendly allies like the UAE.

This is my concern

Though they may be working with us now .. how do we know that 5, 10, 15 years from now .. after sharing some of our intel, do we know they will still be an ally that we can trust

They have a (recently) past history of having dealings with people that want to kill us and who will not recognize Israel

It's a 30 lease

If there are any American companies, they are not big ones. There seem to be 4 major companies. UAE, Hong Kong, and Singapore are the main ones - the latter and the first bidding for this contract. Denmark has the fourth, but they primarily just do their own. I certainly donn't want the government telling any company that they have to start doing ports.

"The facts are very lean."

There are plenty of facts. You just have to do some digging. My contribution is the current state of the Ports of Miami. No way the UAE will make that situation worse.

The reason there aren't American companies doing this is because you need scale to make money at it. To do that you need to operate non-US ports. To do that competively you need better tax regulations. It is why many international companies want to relocate to Bermuda. Instead of threatening US companies we should match the tax laws of our competitors and even make them more attractive.

"We are NOT selling our ports."

How could these people be so stupid. Even NBC news know this is nothing about selling the ports. The ports are owned locally.

I fear the same.

But I also think we can't win easily if we don't get moderate Muslims on our side. The Sun Tzu quote by Rush that the first attempt should be to make your enemies your friends is a lot cheaper and easier. Our commitments have been nothing so far in this war compared to what they will be if we can't succeed in bringing in the moderates at the same time we kill the radicals. If we don't succeed, I fear we won't, as a culture, be able to keep the will to win this war. Al queda will then have succeeded in makeing this a war against Islam and it will be huge, just huge.

I realize that all .. really I do

I may be upset about this all .. but I haven't lost my mind and I realize what we are up against

And though I know all this .. it doesn't mean I like it

Because I don't .. I really don't like it and I don't like how it was handle and I REALLLY don't like what the Dems are doing

The Dems are more then obvious

Trust me I am not afraid of most anything. The one positive attribute of going thru menopause but I am not blind either. As stated before, I just do not think this is in the best interest for our children and grandchildren. Remember, dumb actions do have repercussions that can be very costly. We are now facing deadly repercussion, thanks to four years of Carter. God help us what is in store after eight years of Clinton. Once Islam terrorism is wiped off the face of the earth then we can take another look but not until then.

This is quoted from your post #434 to me. Hey, I am happy you have people that you worship -- I am sure it make life much easier for those that are not capable of thinking for themselves. nuf said on this...

Agreed 100%.

I read somewhere this is a choice between a bad decision and a terrible decision. I hope I'm choosing the bad one along with W.

I share your feeling of insanity in this.......it simply is crazy, and I'm far from sure I've chosen correctly.
