As a PSU prof for over 10 years, I can tell you that I can't remember ever hearing about any student being harrassed for expressing a conservative comment. Some people might march or protest, but I'd say we have a faculty here that is among the most tolerant in the nation regarding allowing or even encouraging conservative viewpoints.

For further evidence, you can look into how PSU has supported our women's basketball coach who is currently under fire over a former player's accusation about her being "anti-gay."

There are also conservative professors. I'm one and I know of at least 4 others just in my "neighborhood" of awareness.

I have been a "Lifetime Member" of the Alumni Association of Penn State since 1976 but have not given a dime to my alma mater in 15 years. I will not give another dime again until Spanier is gone.

Penn State used to be a college you could be proud of but it has been going down the toilet for decades as administrators like Spanier are all too willing to hand the place over to the activist sodomites. The place is getting to be as much of a laughingstock as Harvard.

It's a disgrace and an embarrassment.

"We forbid any course that says we restrict free speech!"

Actual quote by Dr. Kathleen Dixon, the Director of Women's Studies, Bowling Green State University

LOL! Mike Adams bump!

For a real gut-busting laugh, go and read his series on 'Why I Don't Take Feminists Seriuosly', at townhall.com among other places.

Now, let's see. All women are 50.5 percent of humans. All blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, Eskimos and Inuits who are not women must be another 40%. Throw in gays, lesbians, trans-gendered, disabled and the elderly and that must be another 9%. Result- At Penn state you can't speak negatively about anyone in the world but me!

Ann Coulter & David Horowithz get shouted down routinely when they speak on college campuses. Apparently they are not members of "protected classes."

I think all the "poets" should be subjected to the tolerance of the local mental institution,

Penn State is at the top of my daughter's (HS sophomore this year) list (atmospheric science), so you can see my concern when I read about intolerance. We didn't get that impression on the Spend a Summer Day last summer. It looked like a great school to me. Now I have to figure out how I'm gonn finance the out of state tuition.

That's good to hear. Of course, there are people who cross the line of "appreciating diversity" to "standing on the street corner arguing with no one" status at most academic institutions. Unfortunately, these are the people who seek appointment to the committees that write statements like "Intolerance will not be tolerated." I don't know what it's like at Penn St., but on my campus, nothing sends a chill down an instructor's spine like an email that says, "we're looking for members for the whatever committee." So, many people avoid them, moonbats seek them, and policy statements come out that are a little embarrassing.

Glad to hear it, nj. I always thought Center County was not the best breeding grounds for a radical student population. Too many cows, too many trees, too cold.

RIP, Dean Wormer. The phrase, "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son" is advice that many students should heed.

I'm happy to hear you're consider PSU! I'd also say that our campus is relatively safe, as long as students exercise good sense (e.g., don't walk alone downtown after 10 or 11 PM, stay out of bars, etc.)

Oriole Fan -- Penn State is a fine school. You'll find those same speech codes at almost any major university. Everyday life is refreshingly normal.
