It's not a day care center they remember, it's their mom, home every day and taking care of them.

Thank you for sharing this. I'm so sorry for your loss, but you have really put into focus what's important in life. What are these feminazis going to be thinking on their deathbeds? "Gee, I'm so happy I slaved in the office for 12 hours a day and never saw my kids?" You gave your wife and children an incredible gift - God Bless You.

You've made my cry.

Sorry for your loss. Your family was clearly loving and it shows in your comments.

I agree that housekeeping is not particularly rewarding. But raising children is fascinating. I have always been amused when child development researchers discover something mothers have known for millennia.

I got my Social Security paperwork a few months ago, and mentioned to hubby that I didn't have quite enough credits to earn SS and maybe I should get a job when the youngest goes to school. He looked at me like I had two heads, and said "Why would you want to go to work if you don't have to?"

I love that man. :) (And I thank God for him, too.)

I spent a great deal of time away from my daughters working part time and pursuing advanced degrees. I would give anything to have that time back but unfortunately life is not a dress rehearsal.

Of all the reasons to work social security has got to be among the worst.

Yes, you are! I'm sending this despicable rant to our daughter, stay at home mom, expecting number 4 in June. I'm sure she'll have some thoughts to share with Ms. Hirshman.

Hogwash: "I am saying an educated, competent adult's place is in the office," Hirshman told "Good Morning America."

Let's examine the 'stunning' logic of the above statement:

If all "educated, competent" adults were busy "doing their duty" at the office, who would be left to care for the kids? Uneducated, incompetent adults, I suppose.

Just what we want and need. Yep, great thinkin'.

Hirshman went on to describe additional findings in her research. "Ninety percent of the brides I found had had babies..."

Getting married. Having babies. What is the world coming to?

From Hirshman's perspective, it only gets worse. "This isn't only about daycare," she admits. "Half my Times brides quit before the first baby came. In interviews, at least half of them expressed a hope never to work again. None had realistic plans to work. More importantly, when they quit, they were already alienated from their work or at least not committed to a life of work."

Worse! Lol! I think that a woman should feel free to raise her children herself if she and her husband are financially able to live on his salary if that's what they choose to do. Hirshman is WAY too interested in and concerned with what is none of his/her business!
