Sarah, are you visiting Paris or living there? I would have loved to be a part of the "manifestation" however small a step it might be. It's 1937 deja vu.

It looks like the turnout was mostly Jewish. Is that accurate?

Okay. So they aren't showing up on the thread anymore (at least for me), but if you right-click the broken image icon, you can still "view image." Strange.

we've been here since August 2001. There were so many people there! The first photos were taken at about 3:15 at place de la République, and once I headed out towards Place Nation, the roads were totally blocked, meaning that the route was fully covered and no one was moving at all. I slipped out onto a side street and came in a photographed from the middle a bit, so one photo you can still see Place de la Republique in the way background and all the demonstrators are coming towards the camera, and then the next shot I'm aiming towards Nation, and you see only the backs of people and the roads are totally blocked.

My husband was hysterical when I told him my 'get-up', I had put on his professional photographer's vest and had a great camera, a notebook, and I went up to people and interviewed them! I would say that from 75% to 80% were Jewish. The rest had signs like the one 'Evangalistic Protestants against anti-semitism', or the group, 'Ne touche pas a mon pote', which are Frenchies that are against all forms of racism. (clueless useful idiots), oops, I mean kind hearted souls.
It was one of these who got a bit testy with me when I asked what did he see as the purpose of the rally, like what result was he hoping to see, and he said that it was a silent march in solidarity with those suffering from racism. And I said that wasn't there perhaps something that he would hope that the government might do to take action, like perhaps educating the culture that was able to do such a thing??? and he got all 'well things are obviously getting worse and now all the violence from the United States is finding it's way over here.' I said, 'huh?', no really I just said thank you, and what can I say, it's pathetic.
They are going to be majority muslim, when exactly? So my basic theory going in, being that the usefulness of expecting the French government to actually do something to protect the Jewish community at this point, it besides the point: The French Government cannot or simply will not do anything to save THEMSELVES.

Thank you for your report. Sad for the French that there wasn't a better response. I have read that even when the Muslim perpetrators of anti-Semitic crimes are prosecuted they receive minimal sentences from judges.

Hey, thanks,
If you'll look on my post #7, there are three photos (14,15,17) where you really get the idea of the crowd that was there.

Actually, this was heavily covered by French media in France... and many of the commentators were not using the word "racisme" but "barbarie" (barbarism)---which is frankly more accurate.
