Peanut Butter.

What's your favorite kind?

I love the stuff too - and always crave it when I have a cold. But - it has to be gourmet peanut butter - preferrably freshly ground in the store. Darn, I'm getting spoiled living out here!

;0)

For cutting down salt on a longterm basis, try Indian food - flavor is based on heat, spice, and sourness (yogurt) - no salt needed. We're talking homemade, here. But you're trying to make a sacrifice, right?

OK I will lighten up. It was just a few at the beginning and really by the time I got to the bottom it did seem like some light fun. Sorry for the overboard reaction.

What are you giving up for Lent?

Thank you for reminding me, I have been so busy that I forgot to think about what I was giving up for Lent.

I am on a diet now so I guess I will just extend it through Lent.

I also already say the Rosary everyday.

I will think of something!

LOL!

No, no, no.

When I do go, I attend either Annunciation or St Peter's.

St Joan of Arc is a little too far out for my taste.

Yes, I have "kids' but they are all grown up.

It's not that I don't like PB, just not in my coffee.

Coffee should be brewed with fresh ground beans, drank black,/w maybe 1/2 teaspoon of sugar. Some people put cream in it, which is ok, I guess... Maybe.

Interesting link. In the section that title "A More Complete Analysis it says:

"The Season of Lent was instituted in the 4th century as a period of fasting and repentance in preparation for Easter."

I am just curious as to who instituted this?

So, why not try giving up one hour a week to attend mass during Lent? St. Joan's doesn't count. You'll have to go twice at any other church, if you got to St. Joan's.

Here's a kicker: St. Olaf has really good cookies and good music at the 4:00 pm Sunday Mass.

You know you are getting old when your wife gives up sex for Lent and you don't find out about it until Good Friday.

I always give up watermelon and smoking Cuban cigars myself.

It may come a as shock to you, but lent isn't just a Catholic thing. The observance of fasting and other forms of self-denial during Lent varies within Protestant and Anglican
Eastern and western churches.

Wow, what a sacrifice. I'm not sure how you'll pull that one off.

LOL, my son was 5 or 6 and he kept pulling my finger one day and wondered why it wasn't working.

Just remember that lent ends on Palm Sunday, not Easter.

I'm not Catholic so I do not recognize giving up anything for Lent - But if I was, I just had a vasectomy last Friday, giving into months of pleading from the Wife, so does giving up your gene pool count?

Nope. Sterlizing yourself is a grievous sin to a practicing Catholic.

Read on, LoL! Obviously, in the 4 century the Church was Christ's gospel. Churches didn't split into all the various denominations we see today until much later. There were only the churches mentioned in Johns(?) letters to the churches, and all did the same thing.
Easter of course is remembrance of Christ's crucification, it wasn't "brought in" by anyone, it was there from the beginning.
