I don't think I'd want to be a Dutch soldier. Sooner or later they're bound to start euthanizing soldiers greivously wounded in battle and civilians injured in accidents.
Wow. What a sad story.
I knew a family whose baby was born with no brain, just a stem. After a few months, the baby's eyes were infected and had to be surgically removed.
Imagine... an infant that made no sound, no movement, no nothing. Just a pooping, breathing piece of meat. I helped babysit one night so the parents could get out of the house for a few hours, and I never did it again. It was just horrible and creepy. And they had to live with it 24/7 for almost 18 months before she finally died.
Very sad.
Holland's about two months away from printing "baby recipes" in the Sunday paper.
It's not enough that the children are being killed in the womb, let the infanticide begin...
I know that's a bit of a non sequitor but it's true.
Words fail me.
bttt, I have to show this to my disbelieving wife. She always calls me a pessimist, for stating the obvious.
Well, evidently they can rationalize ANYTHING, so that's probably next...
I agree, facedown. Words fail me too.
Maybe they can just throw the poor babies in the middle of the road.
Didn't read whole article. Noted the sympathetic bias - how nice the parents are to kill their suffering baby.
What I wonder is in countries (or states) that allow euthanasia of suffering people, who draws the line, and where? I've had my share of suffering, suppose someone at one of those times decided I'd have been better off dead?
This story leaves me torn. On one hand, I do think that euthanasia-without-consent is a VERY slippery slope. How long until other groups are euthanized without their consent?
OTOH ... if I were the parent of a child like one of those described in the story, a baby whose skin fell off every time it was touched, it would be torture to me to know how much that child must be suffering. If an infant is suffering terribly, from something that will kill him/her sooner rather than later, and the suffering cannot be abated without tranking up the baby so much that it is unaware of life anyway ... then what is the point of that life? Does God enjoy the suffering of infants? (That was rhetorical; no need to flame me. I am quite sure that God does NOT enjoy anyone's suffering.)
I don't really have any answers here. Just wanted to point out that this is a very difficult question, not one to be answered quickly.
Situations like the one with the child are truly horrible for the child and the parents. But child euthanasia has been going on in Holland for some time. About a year ago, I found an article regarding this while doing research on infant feeding pratices. In that article, it indicated that some of the children euthanized were not suffering and would not have died if given reasonable medical care. Some just had visceral abnormalities or major somatic defects that the parents did not want to deal with. Essentially, the parents wanted perfect children and weren't satisfied with the children given to them.
Save your outrage for China where perfectly healthy female children are murdered every day because of the govt's one child policy.
The joys of communism.
They planted a lime tree for the baby killed outside but not for the baby killed inside. So spiritual parents.....
Oh, they draw the line at convicted murderers. Them, they want to live.
