Why Jon Bombed

(snip)

Then he sets up what starts out like a winner, noting how “a lot of people say this town is too liberal…out of touch with Mainstream America…a moral black hole where innocence is obliterated in an orgy of sexual gratification and greed…” But then he ends with, “I don’t really have a joke here.”

Hollywood has declined dramatically in recent years.

The use of many montages of past movies just accented the fact that this year's crop of films was horrible.

I think they just gave Ang Lee the award, to make up for snubbing him for "The Hulk" /sarcasm

(The Hulk, two hours of my life I'll never get back)

I think the promoters of the Oscars have figured out that there's no upside to alienating half your audience. Trouble is, now the libs are insulted if no one insults the Republicans.

I thought he was good.
No, he's not Billy Crystal. But who is?
I thought Jon was much better then Whoopi Goldberg.

"The Hulk, two hours of my life I'll never get back."

That's for sure, what a horrible flick. I tried twice to watch it and never got beyond a hour into it. I thought that Crouching Tiger movie was stupid too. I don't care how good a martial artist is, they can't run up the side of a building like spiderman.

I'd love to see somebody apolitical and dry like Owen Wilson or Steve Carell host the Oscars.

Stewart wasn't bad, but I've never found him to be funny.

...they'll get Ellen Degenerate next year.

Yup... Stewart was like Kerry running in 2004... when the moonbats really wanted Dean.

And Jon made fun of George Clooney and George was not very happy!

I thought he came off as a little nervous. I don't recall one anti-Bush joke. He told one Cheney hunting joke that was actually funny (Bjrok couldn't be here tonight. She was trying on her outfit and Cheney shot her - you have to remember that Bjork wore the outfit with the swan on it a few years ago).

He took a couple good swipes at the Democrats (usually you have to go to a Democratic fundraiser to see this many Hollywood stars) and the Baldwins. I thought the opening was funny when one former host after another turned said no to hosting again. The cowboy montage was also a hoot, in an off color sort of way.

I was happy Crash won because it was the only nominated movie I saw last year.

I thought Jon was much better then Whoopi Goldberg.

There was a South Park episode, that showed Whoopi hosting the awards show. And the only thing she said all night over and over was "Republicans are stupid" and she would get applause every time she said it.

Didn't watch it, but as he isn't funny to begin with, it was an easy call he'd bomb.

The big stars don't have a clue just how riotously funny the liberalism disease, Hollywood strain, is.

This was the first Academy Awards in my lifetime in which I saw none of the movies nominated for Best Picture. In fact, my wife and I forgot that the Oscars were on last night and watched "The Gospel of John" on DVD instead.

Pleasantly surprised by Jon. He is the information guru for people 16-29. Highly influential. So it was refreshing that he "did the right thing" (as Spike Lee would urge) and acted like a grown up. Good for him. Let Hollywood pound salt for that and over the fact that best picture (Crash) was allowed to win.

I can't stand that smarmy wiseass, but he certainly didn't bomb last night, much as I wanted him to. It would help if the broadcast would mike up the crowd a bit -- the laughter seemed very muffled and distant, the pauses long and silent.

He did an OK job, but obviously he (and everyone else there) were read the riot act about alienating Middle America too much, after the dismal box office and loony lefty bias of the past year.

Hollywood also knows that this year will be even worse dollarwise than last: even with last year's lousy box office there were surefire blockbusters like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Narnia, King Kong, Spielberg's War Of The Worlds, etc. There ain't nothing like them on the ledger this year except maybe Shrek, Superman or X-Men. It won't be enough.

Worthless story by someone who didn't have anything to do but suck up to their readers.

Sounds like more Brokeyourbackamountinyou disgruntled perverts.

A lot to do about nothing.

On a scale of 1 to 1,000,000,000,000,000 does this story even rank?

My youngest son was four when I rented the Hulk. He is/was a huge Star Wars and Spyder-man fan. We sat down to watch it together. After 15 minutes, he left and found something better to do. I sat through it hoping it would get better.

I want my two hours back!!!!!!

That line was disappointing. Excellent setup and no punchline. Anything about "when's the party" or somesuch would've worked to varying degrees.

About the only political joke that was laugh out loud from all at my place was the joke about Bjork (she of the swan gown a couple years back) being shot by Dick Cheney. (C'mon guys, there was going to be a Cheney joke in there and that was the best possible take for it.)

The only other good, spontaneous line: "Y'know, I think it just got a little easier out there for a pimp."
