...Be suspicious of an anonymous source, unless they're saying what you want to hear eh?
Politics certainly exist in the Arab world too. But fortunately the USA and UAE still have common interests, one of which is Iran.

What about US Loyalty? Or is it only a one way street in your warped mind?

This is why I've stayed away from the news for a week now. You could see this trainwreck coming. And trying to warn people what this would do to the economy, foreign investment, gas, intel, military bases, etc. -- no one wanted to hear it.

You sound like Hamas, labeling as a threat something denied to you that you aren't entitled to.
You sound like a mentally ill moron, comparing fellow freepers to Hamas.
Stop the nonsense.
Threats do not imply entitlement. A wife can threaten to stop baking cookies you until you start cooking dinner. That doesn't mean you were entitled to the cookies.
The UAE threatening to turn against us in every way possible unless they get what they want really changes the nature the discussion on this issue. It's no longer we should do this because there is no security threat, do this because they are our good friend. It is do this or else, regardless of the propriety.

You still don't understand the deal. Nobody's buying or selling any ports.
Alright then, operate the ports. I still don't acquiesce to threats. Screw them.
To: Peach
Humiliating the UAE this way is going to hurt us. Big time. In ways we can't even imagine right now.
.....how about our plans for Iran....

"Our country isn't full of backstabbing, self-detonating terrorists."
Neither is the UAE! That's part of the reason this is a galactically stupid set of moves we are making.

How many foreign countries will want to do business with the US now?Get a grip. We will continue to do business with the UAE regardless of the collapse of this deal. They need us more than we need them.

They were nothing more than fairweather friends to begin with. There are no friends, only interests. And yes, Dubai may not be our friend, but they were an ally, because they too are worried about Islamo-Fascism that would put the ruling class up against the wall in a heartbeat, so it's in our best interests to work together against a common enemy. Do you think we really wanted Stalin for an ally during WWII? Of course not, but what choice was there?
To: bannedfromdu
You think they would have gotten a clue when Bill Clinton was found to be an agent of the deal.

Are you suggesting we now give in to Arab threats? That's pathetic. If the UAE's "loyalty" is this fragile, and they feel the need now to threaten us, SCREW THEM. They were nothing more than fairweather friends to begin with.Do you routinely volunteer to do business involving large amounts of your money with a party that has screwed you over on a previous deal?
I'm a retired business owner, and I NEVER did business a second time with someone who U-turned on a deal like we're trying to do with the UAE.

So now we are leading by what the polls say?
what is this? The Clinton Administration??????
We've stabbed an ally in the back. We called them terrorists. we called into question their integrity.
Now WE are going to pay the price for it. Actually WE isn't specific enough.
OUR MILITARY is going to pay the price for it. Live with that.

Well, so much for the bunch of geniuses who stated that there would be no repercussions. So much more for the geniuses who think Arabs mean exactly what they say. And in business yet!

"I just have to wonder why he is so determined to see this through."
Probably something to do with the fact that Iran is just a hop, skip and jump away from the Emirates and it is strategis to the US to have a navbal presence there as well as a jump off point to get to Iran.
Unfortunately, no one is saying this because it is an election year.
