A series of independent studies around the world show a significant rise in the amount of sunshine penetrating the atmosphere to be absorbed by the earths surface and turned into heat.
The research will concern climate researchers who are already predicting a rapid rise in global temperatures due to man-made emissions of so-called greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide.
The enhanced warming we have seen since the 1990s along with phenomena such as the widespread melting of glaciers could well be due to this increased intensity of sunlight compounding the effect of greenhouse gases, said Professor Martin Wild of the Institute of Atmospheric and Climate Science in Zurich, Switzerland.
Researchers will present their findings to the European Geophysical Union conference in Vienna next week.
They reverse a 30-year trend. Measurements of sunshine levels between 1960 and 1990 had shown a decrease in the amount of sunshine reaching the earth.

The sun always appears brighter to me after a GOP victory. Looks like this too is Bush's fault.
I guess it doesn't occur to them that the increased solar activity could be the source of the warming, instead of the increase in CO2 due to human activity.
Nah, that would go against current scientific dogma. And it's a lot harder to get grants to study a natural phenomenon that can't be countered.
They had better be careful. They might find out global warming is caused by the sun.
If this is true, which I have a problem with, it will all be laid at the feet of George Bush .... nevermind China and India.
"Since the beginning of time, man has yearned to destroy the sun, and I'll do the next best thing: block it out!"--C. Montgomery Burns
Weird, that orb which warms our planet has an effect on the temperature of this planet... Imagine that!
Don't forget that it was our fault all those iceages started and ended (you know, the ones where there were gigantic, billion-ton sheets of ice sliding around on the continents, carving valleys and whatnot, that melted somehow...).
These idiots can't even square the title with the first sentence: there's a difference between the sun actually getting brighter, and more sunlight reaching the earth.
The sun always appears brighter to me after a GOP victory. Looks like this too is Bush's fault.
Me too. You know I NEVER worry about the sun being brighter. I mean who in the world is worried about this. I can't even imagine anyone I hang out with worrying about this. I could just imagine my friends sitting around drinking beer and one of us would say "you know guys, I am really fearful of the brighter sun." Can you imagine? First of all we would probably spit out our beer, second we would think he would need a urinalysis and then third obviously he would need more alcoholic beverages to get himself back to normal again. This has to be the craziest story to date on FREEPERS.
"I guess it doesn't occur to them that the increased solar activity could be the source of the warming, instead of the increase in CO2 due to human activity."
It also doesn't occur to them that, based upon other, scientific research, New York City (for example) was under a two-mile thick sheet of ice 12,000 years ago.
Now, if that isn't proof enough that global warming is a natural phenomenon independant of human activity, then nothing is. We're not dealing with just science, we're dealing with a science-as-religion, on this issue. Logic and "science" have nothing to do with it; it's all about controlling behavior.
Has the world gone all nuts? Climate change is now a cause of "fear"?
The only constant that can be said of climate is its constant and extreme variability. Hundreds of millions of years of it, now.
Me? I will fear and cower in the dark over sunrise and sunset. Traumatic, they are!
And then there's the biggie... Meteor strikes! Does everyone appreciate the number and size of meteor strikes throughout the world (that we know about)? Hundreds!
Some of those impact craters are a hundred miles across!
Oh my God! Horrors!
Woe is me!
BRB. I need more coffee...
When the solar storm activity decreases again the amount of sunshine reaching the earth.
The world is running out of oil but I can't get to work on time unless I leave an hour early on account of all the traffic jams. All the jobs in America have gone overseas but everybody has a HELP WANTED and you can't get decent service because everybody is understaffed. The housing bubble has popped but I still can't find a house under $300,000. We are in a drought but the sump pump in my basement is still working overtime pumping out all that rainwater. We are in the worst economy ever but I still can't find a parking space at a shopping mall because everybody's out shopping and I still can't find a table in a restaurant on a Friday night without having to wait two hours.
We're doomed I tell you, doomed!
Remember when the same bunch was screaming about the coming "New Ice Age" back in the 70's?
Nah, they skillfully redirected that argument by making it cause for alarm that human-caused global warming could be made DRASTICALLY
Beat me to it!
Do you have a link? :-))
I need to make a new folder for archiving this kind of story; I can't decide if it should be labeled "Fearmongering", "Grantmongering" or "Neuroses"...
I caught that too.
and the environazis can't do shiiiite about it!!
Unless they pile into their Prius rocket ships and go to the Sun to fix it, hhhhhhehehehe....
Yep. And, at my age, I really don't care if it gets hot or cold. Because I won't be here when it happens. But I sure like reading and hearing about all the hysteria while I'm still around!
This explains the recommendation of Dr. Edward Teller (director emeritus, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory), "The Planet Needs a Sunscreen," Wall Street Journal, October 17, 1997.
alternatively, the brightness factor might be sufficient in itself, entirely negating the (already dubious) validity of the greenhouse gas model.
Do a search on solar output. It varies plus or minus 0.05%, not the 6% differences they are seeing. Also, if the sunshine reaching some parts of the earth is increasing but it is decreasing over China, it would be hard to blame that on the sun's output. It would have to say, "Oh, it's daytime in China. It's time to get dimmer."
Doomed! We are all Doom!
Absolutely bears repeating.
It is a well established scientific fact that lightbulbs flare several times greater than normal just before they blow
The world will soon turn into a flying piece of ice. Just like Pluto. (and Daffy, of course).
Vote Democrat tomorrow.
"Unless they pile into their Prius rocket ships and go to the Sun to fix it, hhhhhhehehehe...."
I heard they had planned to go at night.
Is this 'global brightening?' -- I'm sure it was no more than a couple of years ago that this same crowd was claiming that the earth was experiencing 'global dimming!' And, of course, whether it is brightening or dimming, warming or cooling, raining or snowing, windy or calm, Algore will be there to explain it all to us.
The sun is actually not significantly brighter. It appears brighter just as sounds appear louder when the person is stressed: anxiety over global warming. It is a maladjustment in bodily chemistry. The cure is to eat less cheese.
And that the greatest of the "greenhouse gasses" is WATER VAPOR that keeps the globe cooled!!! What dipsticks!!! (but they'll never stop till they wipe out Bush and Capitalism and Earth's economy!)
Reflector Satellites Proposed To Prevent Global Warming
James Pearson, John Oldson and Eugene Levin of Star Technology and Research in Mount Pleasant South Carolina propose construction of a system of satellites to control the amount of sunlight that reaches and warms Earth.
A wild idea to combat global warming suggests creating an artificial ring of small particles or spacecrafts around Earth to shade the tropics and moderate climate extremes.
There would be side effects, proponents admit. An effective sunlight-scattering particle ring would illuminate our night sky as much as the full Moon, for example.
And the price tag would knock the socks off even a big-budget agency like NASA: $6 trillion to $200 trillion for the particle approach. Deploying tiny spacecraft would come at a relative bargain: a mere $500 billion tops.
But the idea, detailed today in the online version of the journal Acta Astronautica, illustrates that climate change can be battled with new technologies, according to one scientist not involved in the new work.
Social anthropologist Benny Peiser of the British Liverpool John Moores University says this proposal demonstrates humans can prevent disastrous climate changes.
"I don't think that the modest warming trend we are currently experiencing poses any significant or long-term threat," Peiser told LiveScience. "Nevertheless, what the paper does show quite impressively is that our hyper-complex civilization is theoretically and technologically capable of dealing with any significant climate change we may potentially face in the future."
Excellent! That's a keeper.
Nah. That was caused by Chuck Norris
This makes him just as big of a dumass Governor as Schwartzenegger with his "Hydrogen Highway" stuff!!!
The very thing that made it possible for those mountain tops to be a national monument were being melted by reason of mankinds industrious existence!!! I felt so ashamed... AND DIRTY!!! (NOT!)(snort!)(I did wonder why that smokin hellocopter din't just fall right out of the sky because of the BIG LIE)
It looks like they are building themselves a "back door" to worm out of some of their man-made B.S.
Gees, the Sun is getting larger. Billions of years from now, it will be a red giant.
The trend reversed in the 1990s to 2000. Then reversed again in 2001. The easy explanation is a decrease in air pollution.
But what this "problem" points out is that climate science and the computer models that are used to predict the future are not adequate.
The computer models can't deal adequately with clouds and solar insolation (the amount of sunlight reaching the earth).
Scientists had wanted to put a satellite in space in solar orbit, measuring "albedo" - the ammount of sunlight reflected by the surface of the earth. Unfortunately, that satellite was never launched. So they don't know how much sunlight reaches the earth, how much is reflected by the earth, and how much is absorbed by the earth.
So far, the only theory about global warming or global cooling that stands up to scrutiny are the Milankovich Cycles - the orbital anomalies of the earth - proposed by Milutin Milankovich in full form in 1940. He was trying to explain why our Ice Ages occurred every 100,000 years.
.we're doomed I tell you...doomed
