Cult Leader Should Not Be Executed, Daughters Say
LA Times ^ | 04/02/2006 | Bruce Wallace

TOKYO — Like good daughters anywhere, Mayumi and Kaori Asahara worry about their father's declining health. They are alarmed that he looks so thin and won't see a doctor. They fret that he refuses to wear the new clothes they gave him to replace his fraying old ones.

But they desperately need something back from their father too. They are seeking an explanation of why the man who taught them to cherish life, even that of an ant, could be a cult leader responsible for Japan's worst terrorist attack.

"I need to ask my father directly what happened," said Kaori Asahara, who was 12 in 1995 when her father ordered the Aum Supreme Truth cult's sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway that killed 12 people and made thousands ill.

I was living in Japan when all this went down... this guy was running a cult that made the Jim Jones koolaid kids look pretty tame.

I don't care if he's nuts now or was nuts then or either or neither.

He needs to be toasted.... and the sooner the better.

Too many murderous nuts escaped toasting. Pol Pot being the worst recent example.

I have obviously spawned a new quick-ping genre.

Yep, I (along with tens of thousands of others) was on the Tokyo subway system that morning, but fortunately was on the Hanzomon Line instead of the Marunouchi Line where (if I remember correctly) the attack took place.

Gokumon hari tsuke (string him up outside the prison gate) for this guy!

Japan * ping * (kono risuto ni hairitai ka detai wo shirasete kudasai : let me know if you want on or off this list)

I believe that the Hibiya-sen and the Chiyoda-sen were also hit. Looking at the Wikipedia page on the attack, it appears that greatest death toll was on the Hibiya line.

"I was living in Japan when all this went down... this guy was running a cult that made the Jim Jones koolaid kids look pretty tame. "

I was , too . In fact , I'm still here . The usless police and THE SYSTEM should share the blame for that sarin attack . As usual , AFTER a deed is done , they ( the cops ) show up by the thousands .

Well, you know - given how popular it is around here to blame an idea whenever someone says or does something stupid, I've no doubt that a ping list devoted to blaming some other idea for stupid things will prove pretty popular as well.

No, I didn't go to the hospital.
