Nixon was a president at war in the midst of a Cold War. I still don't know what was illegal about trying to keep sensitive information secret...
He only crossed the line when he tried to get the FBI, CIA, and the IRS to get info on political enemies - justified by "national security".
Nixon should have gotten in front of Watergate - which was a trivial matter, instead of trying to coverup and become increasingly paranoid. Bush should just get in front of this. If he did "authorize" a leak (I'm not sure is it's a lead when the POTUS authorizes it), he should say exactly why - that Valery Plame was not a NOC (non offical cover) agent, that the story about her company "Brewster Jennings & Associates" being front company for certain CIA investigations was bogus, and that the trip her husband took to Niger was for the sole purpose of trying to discredit a president at war.
Why the administration hasn't been upfront and calling out the Wilsons as frauds and traitors is really beyond me...

Another article:
A 25-page version of the National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction was released in October 2002. It made clear-cut statements about Iraq's nuclear, biological and chemical weapons capabilities in two pages of "Key Judgments."
A copy of the document can be found here. Warning: .pdf file.
Agree....Maybe Scooter's lawyers will let the country know that Val Plame wasn't a NOC.
See #23...it wasn't even a leak.
Please don't confuse them with the facts.
Bush has to get out in front on this and stay out in front. If he doesn't personally address the issue and defend his right to declassify information then he only has himself to blame if this spins out of control. I'm sick of this administration always either on the defensive or having no comment. Stand up and fight!
Talking about this on John Gibson's show now.
Uh, if the president has the power to authorize release of this information, how in the hell is it a "leak?"
Breaking News Pope accused of pontification.
Insiders claim the Pope of trying to change Catholic Doctrine.
Capitol hill staffers accuse Senate leadership of trying to change current laws.
how in the hell is it a "leak?"
It isn't......my head hurts..
The whole context of this is, of course, disregarded by the MSM...Bush and company HAD to declassify some information to counter Wilson's FALSE allegations!!!! It has been proven that what Wilson said in his article was FALSE..yet Fitz AND the MSM conveniently forget that! Wilson was lying about certain aspects of his trip and the ONLY way to clear it up was to get the correct info out. The only mistake Libby made was believing that the media types would take the information and not burn him...
Basically, the MSM is starting to see that that dog just won't hunt, and it's just getting embarrassing to keep yelling that the sky is falling.
Exactly! The people are looking for leadership here...if they don't here from the horse's mouth, they'll listen to any horse's *ss (so to speak). Bush had said a couple years ago that he wouldn't tolerate leakers, and he'd get to the bottom of the "Plame case".. First, that was a mistake, he gave some credibility to the Wilsons with that statement, and second, we HAVE gotten to the bottom of it... Valerie Plame was NOT a CIA NOC, her story is bogus, and her husband went to Niger to discredit the administration's claim of a Niger-Iraq connection.
The MSM is afraid of the pajama people.
Hey Ziggygrey,
Constantly turning the other cheek and compassionate conservatism will not chastise the rabid demo-commie/msm.
I would love to see our President busta few moves on those commies asses.
The repubs think that by being polite gentlemen, they shall overcome the evil democraps and red star msm..(What a joke)
Cordially,
NSNR
What's holding them up? If the Wilsons are liars and traitors, the administration could do the country no better service than to reveal to say that outright. Otherwise, people are getting confused.
It is intended to be an analysis, but reads more like a newsy column.
Thanks for clarifying. It was actually fairly even-handed for an analysis.
