The Catholic Church has ALWAYS obeyed the law of the land.

Not true. The Church, similar to the Armed Forces, teaches that it is not moral to obey an unjust order or law. As others have said elsewhere, the Church does not defer to government on matters of morality.

If you want to debate whether the Church is right or wrong on this issue, that's a different story.

They should lose their tax exempt status and raise their money like the rest of us, work for it.

I'm guessing you don't say this when the Church speaks out in favor of illegalizing abortion and directing her adherents to only vote for candidates that are pro-life, who disproportionately wind up being Republican.

Not pleased with him at all. If my parish priests and/or Bishop pull this act during a sermon, I will have a little chat with him at the end of Mass.

I'm sure the Bishop will be impressed that you told him what for, as if he's a local city councilman.

Will these 12 million put more money in the collection plate?

Yeah, Mexicans that make $3 an hour will sure fill the collection plates to the brim.

I agree completely. I've just stopped my automatic monthly payment to my parish (in the Boston Archdioces. I'm terribly disappointed in Cardinal O'Malley.

I find it interesting how people think of their Church as if it's a TV show or PAC to boycott.

Ever consider that your monthly payments go to take care of retired clergy and religious, or to feed the poor and destitute, or to pay for catechism materials?

What's a wetback?

A foreign national who has entered,and/or remains in, this country illegally.

Yes, there is room for subjective judgement. Given that we have in the USA legal immigrants (like my family) and those who "jumped the line" to enter illegally. That group clearly is outside of the law. First I would plug the leak in our borders and then deal with those illegal aliens within. It is WRONG of the Catholic Church to challenge our immigration laws. These laws simply are not unjust. And those who break them are outlaws.

Maybe Cardinal O'Malley can get immigrants to take up the slack. And you're assuming I won't give my donations directly to charity. I've done lots of my time AND money to charities. However, I don't feel obligated to continue giving to support a position I feel is against the best interests of our country. Unlike taxes, it's MY money and it's MY decision as to how I donate it.
