I watched it and am horrified at what I saw. The second family wasn't a typical disfunctional step family, the parents were child abusers! If you watched as well as me and other millions of people than you have to be as outraged as I am at this step mom and dad,and ABC for showing it!! ABC should have turned this family into the authorities when they first saw the abuse. At the end all they seem to do was try and help the family reconnect! What needs to happen is some serious jail time for this pathetic parents!
yep, this man is a disgrace to our country as a soldier and I knew his unit I'd turn him in as well. Heck, I already called the police dept in Lake Placid where the family lives and turned him in. I wasn't the only one either and I don't think this story is going to go away. This child was abused maliciously by her father and stepmother and it was sickening! If anyone can find out any information I will call his unit and turn his butt in.
His name is Joe Nelson and his wife is Lynn Nelson and they are from the Lake Placid, New York area.
I think they just lost it in the confrontation with the child and forgot about the camaras being there. Both of these parents were highly emotional and completely out of control where the 13 year old was concerned. They beat her, belittled her, mocked her and told her that her natural mother did not want her. The Dad was wildly spewing a line at the child from a movie... 'A Few Good Men' "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!" I am telling you, he needs help. I am glad that someone turned them in. How long would it be before they start picking on the other 3?
Who knows? Maybe they figured that someone was eventually going to turn them in to CPS (maybe even their daughter) and they figured that going on the show and agreeing to get counselling would head off involvement from CPS?
I got a feeling that the step mom liked and enjoyed egging on the stepdaughter and was the one who started just about every confrontation.

I agree with you the stepmom was the instigator. You could see the sick jealousy in her face when she was watching the stepdaughter play with the stepmom's children.
They probably did let them get away with it to a certain extent or else the family wouldn't have let them air the film. It's good that it was aired because the abuse was brought out into the open to be seen by all. No way can there be any denial about the abuse.

It was horrific. That step mother was completely jealous of Kyle the step daughter. She even felt jealous of her showing attention to her half siblings.
What branch of service? Is he active duty? If so, then I would guess that the Family Service Center at the base where he is attached will get involved. At least I would hope so. I once worked for a primary child abuse prevention program for the USMC..it was a prety new program at the time, and I know the other services were interested in this program.
That is horrible. But in a world where Jerry Springer thrives, I have to wonder if the family created the scenes you describe to up their celebrity minutes.
I almost hope that is the case. The thought that a network could sit by and watch abuse unfold without contacting the authorities is sickening.
I saw that segment last night and was sickened. The parents need to be reported to social services.
Just watched it. At least from the video I saw that girl did nothing wrong. And the step mother is not stable. Listening to the step mother talk she didn't even sound like a parent, to her step daughter or her three children.
watch the tape again of when dad hits his daughter, but this time watch the stepmom. She is throwing punches in the air in support of her hubby beating up his daughter.
Also, dad through the first punch and daughter did nothing! The reason why she got into trouble was for a report from school about her grades. She is ADD and needs extra help and dad was yelling she is full of it and putting her down!
The daughter has since moved out of dads home and into the home of her maternal grandparents and she is thriving! Her grades have gone up and she is happier. This should tell you the enviroment she was in with her dad was unstable to say the least.
This mom and dad should be in jail!

that was it, but if you didn't see the video where dad was hitting his daughter than ABC must have removed that part. Interesting.I'm going to watch the clip again and see if it is still there.

the daughter is now living with her maternal grandparents and not leaving I think. Apparently it has been some time(a couple of years or more) since this was taped, but ABC has had it all this time and did nothing about it! That is sickening as well.
Thing is there are 3 more children living in that home and I don't care if the mom is the bio mom to them, I think she will do what she did to her step daughter, and if dad can hit his own child than he can hit his three little ones at home as well. So, I think the authorities should do something about it and not let this crime go unpunished. We shall see.
I watched it, and I was outraged by what they did to that poor girl. I still am. It's no wonder that she has emotional problems. I hope she stays living with her grandparents. She seems to be doing good with them. I think her dad and step mom both should be arrested for child abuse. I'm surprised the military hasn't stepped in. Maybe now that it's gone public they will.
That family was absolute trash. That poor girl was doing more for her half sibs than their own mother was. All that lazy good for nothing cow did was sit around the house while her step daughter played with the kids. And that spinelss father that poor girl has....what an impotent jerk.
