Well I'm in Texas too and I know all about the illegals taking over but if you voted for Bush 4 times knowing he wasn't all that Conservative, just right of center, then what's the beef?

""Close the border and start deporting, and what watch the poll climb!""

Why do people on FR keep saying that???? Bush isnt going to close the border and start deportations..just accpet it and move on to a candidate in 2008 who will.

Thank you! makes me feel a lot better.

You're welcome. We would all be better off if we paid far, far less attention to polls -- especially the "presidential approval ratings," which are pure BS.

"CNN, and the lunatic mediots in charge of the MSM win these polls, and we win elections."

Not this time. The faithfull will stay home because of this amnesty nonsense, and the war will be lost.

It is unfathomable that Bush, after risking so much in his courageous and persistent prosecution of the war, will throw it all away by his delusional pursuit of amnesty for lawbreakers.

Historians will try to figure it out for years to come.

I have no doubt the MSM jiggers these figures to put Bush in the worst possible light. I also have no doubt that W's numbers ARE heading down and a large part of the reason is that he has largely betrayed his Conservative supporters.

I voted, worked and raised money for him twice but if a pollster asked me and I was answering honestly I'd have to say that I disapprove of his handling of his job.

I disapprove of the massive spending and growth of the government.

I am disappointed at his inability to whip congress into shape and make the tax cuts permanent and cut entitlements.

I disapprove of the massive highway bill, the absurd prescription drug benefit and the horrendous federal intervention ironically known as "No Child Left Behind".

I disapprove of an airport security system that refuses to profile.

I puke every time I here him talk about the "religion of peace".

I disapprove of his failure to fire, apprehend and prosecute traitors in the CIA and state department.

I disapprove of the way he fiddles while Iran builds nukes.

I disapprove of the fact that, with a congressional majority in both houses, we are still not drilling in ANWR. Republicans who fail to tow the line are never made to pay any political price.

I disapprove of the fact that he supports RINOS like Spector and Chaffee against conservative challengers.

I disapprove of the way he threw Katherine Harris overboard here in Florida. His lack of support crippled her candidacy at the starting gate.

I disapprove of the way, after destroying Harris, he was unable to recruit a credible candidate to take on the very beatable Bill Nelson. I disapprove of his failure to take his RINO father to the shed for the reprehensible way he cozies up to the reprobate Clinton and his demonic spouse.

I disapprove of the way he caved in to the Katrina criticism by indiscriminantly throwing away billions of our tax dollars at the problem, with inadequate accountability.

I disapprove of the way he meekly allowed himself to be set up for abuse by attending the funeral of the nobody, Coretta Scott King, whose shameless money grubbing family has done nothing but tarnish her husband's considerable legacy.

I disapprove of his attempt to shove the grossly unqualified Harriet Miers down our throats into a lifetime appointment of transcendent importance.

I disapprove of his tone deaf handling of the ridiculous Dubai ports deal.

I disapprove of his inane proposal to grant amnesty for yet another generation of illegal aliens without regard for the quality of life degradation unfettered immigration causes ordinary Americans in their schools, workplaces and social services system. I disapprove of his complete failure to secure our borders and ports.

To be fair, I like Alito and Roberts so far, and am grateful for the military actions in Iraq and Afghanistan. I like that he at least gives lip service to the almighty, to the sanctity of life and to a sane legal definition of marriage (although he rarely DOES anything on these issues - with the exception of the stem cell issue).

There you have it. A candid assessment from a 53 year old lifelong Republican. I have no doubt that John Kerry would have been considerably worse on all these fronts but why must we always choose between bad and worse?

What's was Bush's poll ratings in the two weeks prior to each Presidential election in November 2000 and 2004?

I don't know about the approval polls, but the electoral polls almost all had him about 51%, which is very close to the actual result. No poll was off from the final results by more than the margin of error, and most of them had the outcome right. I don't know why everybody insists that polls are always wrong.

Isn't this in the statistical margin of error from the last poll?

Nope. It's a 6-point drop from the last time they did this poll (March 10). The MOE is +/- 3 points.

It is truly distressing, to have the most senior political leader, denounce the working class of the country.....

Presidente Boosh is starting to remind me of Trent Lott. He won't lead, he won't follow, he just gets in the way.

It was the alternative that kept me from going third party...and voting for him doesn't mean I have to like it...now does it? Just because you vote for someone doesn't mean you give them a rubber stamp of approval...which is what some on this site seem to think.

And just because I voted for him doesn't mean that I automatically MUST approve of the job he is doing...as if my previous vote somehow is tied to his performance rating now. I did not vote for him in the primaries because he was not conservative enough...but did in the generals because he was better than the alternative.

So I also don't need any lectures about throwing away a vote for a third party...although I think that if the GOP was to go out of power for a little while...MAYBE...just MAYBE they might listen to their base a little more than they do.

But I am also a realist...and I understand that the nation as a whole is more towards the center than I. By and large the masses want their cake (low taxes...limited government) but they want to eat it too (they want their government programs). You can't have both.

Trent Lott is not for illegal immigration. Never has been.

Frist is the one that won't lead, won't follow and just gets in the way. Mr. Wishy-Washy himself.

Keep it up. There will be nothing left for an October surprise and Repubs will sweep Congress.

They keep pushing this illegal amnesty and the only thing they'll be pushing is brooms in their empty campaign offices. The Republicans cannot win if they support the illegals.

Interesting post.....

My guess as to why is simply because that is the only choices of what can be elected. Until the country turns much more to the conservative side or the liberal side that is what you get. Neither the far right nor the far left have enough votes in the states to get the required EV to place a nominee in the WH. JMO.

To expect something that wasn't initially expected nor promised is a bit disingenuous for the Bush Bashers, not saying you are. Spending I can understand people being POed about but Immigration has been Bush's firm stance when it comes to guest worker.

Doesn't he see the correlation between his utopian guest worker vista crap and his ratings?

Does he WATCH the news?

Has he SEEN these arrogant, demanding ILLEGALS?

Most Americans wouldn't care if there were 100 million Mexicans here as long as the gas was cheap.

I hear this gloom and doom for the Republicans every 2 years for the past 12 and this isn't going to be the breakthrough year for the Rats this time. Then Rats will gain seats but it will only be 4 in the House and maybe 2 in the Senate. I will guarantee Bush won't be reelected.

More nonsense. Really, sinkspur, you are batting three for three.

There was the one where you insisted that a raid is a greater threat to America than demographic conquest.

And the one where you insisted that baby baptism equals 'growth' for the American Catholic church.

Now you think the American people can't be as tough as they have to be to protect their country. The last century is littered with the carcasses of countries that thought that.
