Kudos to Laura Mansfield for being the first to note this.
I pray there are others in high positions who also noticed what she did.

I knew what it was before the text came out.
It was confirmed by Sec. Rice's mention of religion in its content.
I emailed the talk shows about it.
Rush still thinks it was just a ploy to excite the liberal media.
No one is interested in the first thing about Islam.
They prefer ascribing Western pragmatic and secular motivation to the jihadists' actions.
Those in "high places", from traffic cops to the President, listen only to themselves anyway.
So they will continue to misread intentions and fail to predict the enemy's next move.

Well, let's not forget its first director was Rear Admiral Sidney W. Souers, appointed by Truman. More recently was Admiral Stansfield Turner, appointed by Jimmy Carter.

Speaking of Carter, another point worth noting about Ahmadinejad: From his perspective, he's already defeated the mighty U.S. once before, in 1979 when he was one of the leaders of the embassy takeover. In a big way, then, this latest crisis is yet another gift from Jimmy Carter.

My 2¢ take:

This has got to be the longest screed he's ever written that doesn't mention allah in every paragraph!

As I read it, he's making the case for attacking America. He falls short of the koranic requirement of warning of an attack, but just barely.

I'm curious, is the original in English, Farsi, or arabic? It might make a big difference.

If it were in English, we can safely assume that due to the large population of western schooled Iranians that the text conveys all the original intent.

If our State Department translated it from Farsi, we can assume that the translation has been toned down to fit the Department's gone native political filters. Any actual, explicit, or subtle threat has been toned down beyond recognition. Ahmadi-Najad has satisfied his koranic requirement to give warning, and our own government has made darn sure we don't receive the message.

If the original is in arabic? Dunno, I can only think of a few reasons why it wouldn't be in the languages of either the originating nation, or the recipient nation. None of them pleasant.

1) For a while, all international diplomacy was conducted in french, the lingua franca of the world. Currently, English is as close as we've got to a universal tongue, not arabic. Is Ahmadi-Najad trying to make arabic the new world language?
2) We are not the actual intended recipient, that honor belongs to the arab world.
3) Arabic is the language of the quran, and the pre attack warning is in that language so that the intent is crystal clear to those in the know.

Iran released a Farsi translation as well as the original Farsi document.

I've had it cross checked by several excellent translators.

When the source (Al Qaeda, Iran, etc.) releases a translation of a document or video, I pay attention. Usually the translation is the message they want you to receive.
