Let's see now. Lawmakers are worried about US troops on the border but not worried about the 8000 invaders per day that are infiltrating our country. The whole lot of politicians should be tarred and feathered.

It's the "lawmakers' that we need to be concerned about.

Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska.

Who's border is so far from Mexico that he's not even sure what an illegal looks like....!

Re Hagel:
To think that this intellectual midget and mean-spirited political prostitute considers himself "Presidential Timber" is, in itself, beyond belief.

How I despise this political hack!

support for in-state tuition for illegal aliens

As opposed to law-abiding citizens of neighboring states, who get screwed by comparison. This craven whoring after illegals should be a decisive suicidal/poison pill for any candidate anywhere, any office.

If so, the child is immediately enrolled in the foster care system/adoption program and is a US citizen.

Now now. You know that "family values don't stop at the border." Send the whole family together back to their country of origin, and when the kid is 18, or 21, he can come back if he wants to. After all, he's a citizen.

Your ignorance of who lives in Nebraska is outstanding.

The only thing that worries lawmakers is how to stay elected!

Now how many of you knew the lawmakers are not self employed?

Unfortunately, the public in general seems to believe this and not the fact that each citizen is an "employer" and you can fire that sorry POS at any election.

I don't think it can hurt. ANY presence of ANYONE in uniform on the border will have a deterrent effect, even if they are carrying slingshots.

What are the constitutional ramifications of citizen millitias enforcning the security of our country carrying arms?..... Oh thats right, the Constitution has been pissed on for the last 50 years by utopian pansie liberals who don't have the slightest idea what in the hell the complicated phrases like "the right to bear arms" and "well regulated millitia" mean.

They call those outposts embassies and consulates. They can do just like everybody else in the world does and apply at a consulate or embassy.

If they had been good neighbors like the Canadians (I know this will get some Canada Haters on FR going, but they are good neighbors) we wouldn't need a fence. Fences MAKE good neighbors.

Three months ago, hundreds of wimp-assed Democrats (and many Repubs) were calling on, no make that demanding, that President Bush secure the borders, with the National Guard if necessary.

But now, when GWB tries to make a move, those same two-faced ass cheeks are running like scared mice.

Not that President Bush has been any paragon of integrity, but c'mon, at least THIS proposal is a step foreward and is much better than the usual baloney in which they usually say "we'll hire a few hundred more border agents, when we get the money, of course."

but guarding the nation at the border ..... is not the role of the National Guard?!?!

Guarding our borders (temporarily) is EXACTLY what the National Guard should be doing, until the feds build a wall or otherwise develop a fool-proof system to prevent this invasion of illegals!

For those who think this would be 'beneath' the Guard, consider the things we have asked them to do over the years, such as traffic directors, loot patrol, trash pickups, sand-bag fillers and stackers (floods), medicine delivery, etc.

To me, guarding our borders from this insidious flood of future anarchists is probably one of the most noble things the National Guard could be asked to do.

I firmly believe that if we were to do nothing about our southern border today, we would be fighting some type of balkanized civil war within 50 years after the radical Hispanic-Latino factions become so powerful they would vote out all the gringo's and attempt some type of self-determined Southwest Alliance, or Mexico North.

Even with the Iraq involvement of National Guardsmen there are still plenty of them available to back up the BP. We are not talking about tens of thusands. Guardsmen meeting regularly at armories would be better occupied at the border, temporarily as Mojowire suggests, backing the border Patrol until that border is "shut down." By shut down I mean until illegal traffic is reduced by 80%. the goal should be even higher. The more I hear that the guard, a wall, a fence, etcetera won't work, the more convinced I become am that the these measures are opposed precisely because of the fear that they will work!

The "anchor baby" issue must be adressed.

So far the way most border issues are addressed is by more talk, which so far has only emboldened the illegals. Action to eliminate the "anchor baby" would elicit a huge outcry from the Left and the Illegal Immigration lobby, therefore the spineless vacillate.

Vacillation of the spineless is why I'm not inclinced to vote in November, for the first time in 24 years.
