"M. Malkin is carving Oreilly a new orifice on immigration, this lady speaks well for all of us!"

PLease. Gawd Oreilly actually is making some sense tonight. Or maybe it because I am enjoying about not having to hear the 1,000,000 story on Jessica law.

"If you do not vote again, you are an UN-AMERICAN piece of crap whose opinion is more worthless than Ted Kennedy."

"Soldiers died for your right to vote."

"No real 'conservative' does not vote." Well said and true. I'm supremely frustrated by the RINOs and other spineless pubs in Congress and their failure to act like REAL conservatives in their legislative duties, but I sure won't stop voting because of that. That's worse than handing it to the liberals to screw up the country even more than they did in the 90s. Any conservative who stops voting because they're frustrated doesn't get it and they're part of the problem.

I actually liked a good deal of what he said. Perhaps because I expected worse. It was just rather empty to come forward and do something now five years after 9/11. The good thing in this is that he laid out a plan and basically demanded that Congress follow it. Too bad he hasn't done this on a number of other issues but...

If Congress followed his plans word-for-word it would be a decent bill. Too bad he left out key components that would make it an actual "comprehensive" plan. Largely the "crack down on employers" component.

The Bracero program from 1942 was instituted because of WWII. It was not an amnesty program. It was a worker agreement between the US and Mexico. Different times.

What we need today is not another Bracero program. What we need today is another 1950`s vintage "Operation Wetback" program. This time with a much larger military force contingent to get the job done right.

This Presidents main concern in immigration reform, is for granting amnesty to the 15 million illegals living in the US today. All other aspects of immigration reform are secondary concerns to Bush.

A thoughtful and intelligent site can certainly have people calling each other names. Everyone on this site and every other site does it. That's irrevelant. I was speaking to the depth in which issues are discussed.

I am OK with nothing passing. we have two national elections in the next 30 months, let this issue be taken into campaigns and voted upon.

"the government has a list of everyone you call on the phone - and you are worried about an ID card?"

Believing the DNC and MSM spin, eh?

"He added that part of the problem is all of the forged documents"

BS

all an employer has to do is contact the Social Security to confirm that the number is valid...which I have done for thirty years!

and what you posted has NOTHING TO DO WITH FINING EMPLOYERS WHO HIRE ILLEGALS!

The first would be what we call a BCC, or Border Crossing Card, which is issued to Mexican nationals and requires a passport. And it's similar to applying for a visa, but instead of getting a visa you would actually get a Border Crossing Card. It's utilized by Mexican nationals who come into the country on regular basis, to visit family, for work purposes, whatever the case may be. So that's one option at the southern border that we think will be flexible in terms of those document requirements.

We've issued 11 million of these to Mexicans in the past 10 years, and they have 10-yr durations. They are biometric cards but they are not scanned at the border because of time constraints, so there's no vetting (as there is in airports) to assure that the card carrier is the same person that applied for the card. This program must be severely curtailed if we ever want to get a handle on the illegal immigration problem.

I for one am sick of what these slugs have done to Free Republic. You may be right but the perception is that FR has changed from a thoughtful site to a site of hot-heads with no political brains. That is sad because there are so many intelligent people at this site being shouted down by these blowhards.

WELL SAID!!!!!!

I too agree FR has changed. It does seem as there used to be more agree to disagree conversations and intellectual banter. These conversations are learning tools for some of us. The name calling is pretty glaring. It seems to me that since the Republicans took office RINO is used as a dirty name to belittle a fellow Republican. I wish it could be remembered that it took all Republicans to elect President Bush and give the majority in the Senate and House. I thought that FreeRepublic was a conservative web-site meaning they stood by the GOP. Reasonable people can agree to disagree rather than alienate our fellow Republicans. Sometimes it is just feels good to be able to express your opinio--even if it is cookey.

In two and a half years, the President and First Lady will retire, possibly to a mansion in Highland Park or some other well-protected area of Dallas, living in the country club world that will provide them a safe and happy existence for the remainder of their days. The rest of us, especially in the Southwestern states, will suffer from the inundation of what was formerly an English-speaking, middle class nation and its ultimate conversion into the northernmost adjunct of Latin America.

I wonder if George and Laura will be able to escape to Kennebunkport in time, before Texas becomes the new Mexican state of Tejas? Get enough illegal Mexicans who think the S.W. was stolen from them legalized, and this could become the case.
