why try to sneak explosives in on the most protected border when they have so many miles of open borders just a few miles away.

Because it's easier to operate in the corrupt environment of Mexico, then in Canada. Also, Canada actually tries to stop folks from crossing into the US illegally, while Mexico encourages and helps anyone and everyone in their attempt to enter the US illegally.

And no, I'm not trying to down play the importance of securing our northern border.

Maybe Mo can tell us about the Cronyn amendment that barely passed?

"They are going to get a big fence. Hell! I want a fence to. I think everyone does, but I doubt that will placate the most hardliners who seemed to have whipped themselves into a frenzy"

No, they're not.
They're going to get physical fencing here and there, and "virtual fencing" (which means "No fence") in other places. Which means that the immigration flood will MOVE, but it won't stop.

It also means that the leadership won't give people what they want, but is trying to tell people what they don't want is what they want, and will work. It isn't, and it won't.

The Republican Party needs to look the country in the eye and say "We hear you!", and say they're building a physical fence, from sea-to-sea, and then start construction. It won't nearly be finished by election time, but the BorderBots will have something to vote to protect.
As it is now, they've got nothing and don't accept what's been offered. They aren't going to vote for the GOP and we all lose.

Give them their fence, or at any rate SAY you are and build SOME of it, and don't be prissy about "virtual" - build a damned wall - it's cheaper anyway, and it's what THEY want. Give the constituency what it says it wants and be done with it. If you're going to alienate them, do it five years from now when you never get around to finishing it. Don't do it NOW, during an election year!

It would be prudent to wait until the General Election before declaring any victory.

FOX News thinks it worthy of mention. They just did a piece on the PA primaries.

First time since the 1940's that 2 incumbents have been voted out of office.

It's a big deal here locally. Incumbents have been defeated by more conservative candidates.

That's $150 a year less of my money that Congress confiscates. I'll take it.

Being middle class, I've got no choice, but to take whatever the elitists in DC toss my way.

Of course, if I had another zero at the end of my income, I'd be saving tens of thousands.

"I think a wall is going to be the ultimate outcome of this debate. But I am going to get medieval on the first FReeper who complains about spending if it happens, because that wall will cost some enormous dollars."

The Israeli Wall is 403 miles long. And it has been dramatically effective at stopping suicidal terrorists, who want to get at Israel in a worse way than any Mexican wants to get into the US! Putting an Israeli Wall 5 times longer than the one in Israel, along the entire US/Mexican border, will cost about $8 billion dollars.

Border Patrol says 3 million illegals crossed the border last year, and 1.1 million were intercepted and turned back. So 1.9 million made it in, many pregnant, having babies soon after getting here, etc.

What's the per capita cost of education, welfare, etc., for an illegal alien's children? Start multiplying it out, and an effective wall will save $8 billion the first year it's up. Also, an effective wall means you don't have to massively increase border patrol, which is expensive.

If that is the latest vote, it was to make English the National Language.

"Because it's easier to operate in the corrupt environment of Mexico, then in Canada."

You're kidding? Canada has laws that prevents surveillance on these two centers...they protect them with their laws. Last I checked Canada was still refusing to share airline passenger manifests with us while insisting that we keep border crossing between the U.S. and Canada as open as possible.

Nobody has asked me if I support the wall, assuming that I dont. I am ALL FOR A WALL. We should pay for it with the oil receipts from ANWR.

Good post, PD. It has been disapointing to see FR devolve. I am guilty of rudeness myself. It accomplished nothing but more bad feelings. Hopefully your thread will refocus the troops. I know I will re-focus. Instead of bashing eachother, our immediate concern is stopping the inane senate bill. I will be concentrating on that. Again, thanks for posting..

So, is there a story behind the name Pukin Dog?

Sorry for the threadjack, but all I can think of is that the dog was puking when you signed up.

"Oh, it will, or I will certainly be banned."

Well it NEEDS to, certainly.
We're in a precarious situation, oil-wise, and we've got Congress pushing us deeper into oil dependency by refusing to let us tap our own Alaskan resources.
It's stupidity incarnate, really.

Not to mention immigrant families who own farms on both sides of the border, very useful for the marijuana/cocaine exchange.
