We could make it advantageous to buy that top quality Mexican baby clothing rather than inferior cheap Chinese baby clothing. (My wife's business is Mexican made baby clothing.)
Better to import from Mexico than China?
CL Note the reference to "Bad Mexican". Hope it never comes to that name calling.
I would rather help a pseudo-democracy than a communist state.
I could make a bad joke about how many people could fit in a Mexican car, but I'll refrain.
It is not America's job to send jobs to Mexico. The Mexican government needs to get off it's lazy a$$ and create some econimic stimulation, not to mention getting away from their corrupt ways.
What does a snipe hunt have to do w/ the Scout Law?
The French did it, for crying out loud. So can the Mexicans.
By annexing Mexico, and eventual statehood for it, these families, at least the Mexican families, can be reunited. At least the ones where the families want to stay together.
Personally, I'd rather have a stable and democratic nation on our southern border. If that means providing well-paying consistent jobs to that nation, so be it. It is in our best interest to improve life in Mexico... a happy democratic neighbor over a socialist one any day.
2. France has double digit unemployment and mob violence and/or strikes on a regular basis.
I was thinking more the lines of emulating the Chilean model. There is a reason why you don't see too many Chileans in the U.S. relative to other South Americans.
Why stop there? Push all the way to Panama.
I've come to agree with the President's view-- you can't deport 12 million illegals, not because we couldn't do it, or because we need these people to trim our hedges, but because dumping that many poor back on the broken system down there would likely break it entirely, and then we would have a quasi-Somalia on our doorstep.
Yes, I think we should look at trying to build up the Mexican lower class in Mexico. But I'm not sure what the solution in the current situation there is.
I am not opposed to anyone in the western hemisphere joining the union. But I would focus on digesting one problem country at a time.

Bill O'Reilly was making a major dig on this point in The Factor tonight.
It seems that the Foreign Secretary of Mexico had made comments to the effect that if our National Guard were to arrest illegal Mexican aliens in our country - he would start filing law suits against the U.S.
Mr. O'Reilly responded that if the suits were placed, O'Reilly would call for a ban against Mexican business interests such as tourism and products.
I thought it sounded serious and O'Reilly said if the Mexicans didn't think he was serious - just ask the French.
Deport 1 million--another 5 million will leave.
I thought that NAFTA was supposed to take care of that?????
Let me see if I have this straight?
Quite a number of Mexicans want to forego our immigration laws and feel that they are entitled to walk across the Mexican-USA border and that they are entitled to jobs, welfare, and voting rights? The United Nations views these aliens as 'legitimate migrants'? Our President thinks, because they are human, that they should be welcomed as 'guest workers' even though they broke the law (Title 8 USC) by coming here without passing through an immigration checkpoint? We have a United States Congress who insists on passing more immigration laws even though volumes exist that are not being enforced? Private citizens who have chosen to assist the Border Patrol are called 'vigilantes' by our leaders?
My God, is country screwed up??????????????
America sends billion$ of our dollars as foreign aid all around the world.......
and the world hates us.
I'm ready to vote for a candidate that will cut off all foreign aid immediately and use the money to build a wall 100 feet high.....
high enough to keep out King Kong!!
Men leaving their children without support? Dead-beat Mexicans!
If Mexicans were so hard working, why is their country still a 3rd world $hithole?
I have nothing against buying Mexican products. Beats that Chinese resin crap.
sw
NAFTA should be read as such....
