Anheuser-Busch Cos., which brews Budweiser and Bud Light, said Friday it bought the Rolling Rock beer brand from InBev USA, the U.S. subsidiary of Belgian-Brazilian brewer InBev SA, for $82 million.

Under the agreement announced by the two companies, Anheuser-Busch will use the brand to expand its portfolio of products and begin brewing Rolling Rock and Rock Green Light in August.

Meanwhile, InBev said it will sell its brewery in Latrobe, Pa., to focus its U.S. business on imported beers and is currently in discussion with potential buyers.

Let me understand this. Bud is buying the Rolling Rock lable but not the Latrobe brewery? They will brew it in their MacBreweries around the country, but not in Latrobe?

Sad if this is the case. Another fine local brewery gets swallowed by Big Beer. I'll miss my Rolling Rock.

I grant you that Yuengling is a fine tasting beer, but frankly, it gave me headaches --- the only beer I have ever tried that did. Rolling Rock is also a good tasting beer that was brewed locally which was my primary reason for making it my regular brand. Looks like it will become just another MacBeer from MacBrewery now. I'll miss it.

That is correct. A-B's "Rolling Rock" will be as genuine as a wooden nickel. July 31 is the deadline.

Clean and crisp will now be the dull fermented bread that all AB beers are.

Well, so long as the Spoetzl brewery and the makers of Moosehead don't do anything stupid, I'll be okay.

Beer Bump! Shiner is my favorite of the available brews, with Negra Modelo a close second (tho its now on my 'banned' list).

Anyone ever try a Cruzcampo, brewed in Seville, Spain? Absolutely the best pils style brew anywhere! I'm surprised I have any brain cells left!

They can follow the recipe all they want, but if they make it in New Jersey, it's not going to be authentic. Beer is mostly water, and the local mountain water is what gives RR its distinctive character.

This makes sense - put all the world's worst beers under the same company!!!

p.s. I hate Rolling Rock and I hate Budweiser. They deserve each other!!
