As FoxNews reports today, New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin has "narrowly" won re-election to his mayoral office today. This, despite his complete incompetence in both preparing for Hurricane Katrina and in the now-infamous aftermath. (Surely you haven't forgotten the details, like the fleet of school buses sitting useless in standing water.) And then there was his famously racist comment about New Orleans needing to remain "a chocolate city." (As other writers have noted, can anyone seriously contemplate a white guy running for reelection appealing to voters to keep a city "vanilla"?)
What Nagin's reelection ensures, is that New Orleans will remain a predominantly poor and dismally unprepared city.
The only thing Nagin managed to do (and he had LOTS of help here) was to blame the whole thing on the federal government. So when the next big one hits, and New Orleans is devastated once again, it won't be his fault then, either.
Nagin's a joke, but it's the New Orleans voters who are pathetic.
Pathetic is right.
The right people lost this election
All true, but Landrieu was the choice of the democrat establishment, the ones who deliberately refused to let President Bush federalize the relief effort. They killed their own people for political gain, at the behest of democrat scum like Mike Mcurry. Nagin is incompetent, even childish, but maybe sincere.
New orleans got exactly the type of politician they deserve. Pathetic is right.
Yeah, but Dean tried to unseat him. He can't be all bad.
Marion Barry wa a better mayor than Nagin could ever be.
Failure always brings you more success in the Democrat party. It's what they are all about.
Democracy in action.
Between Nagin and Landrieu, I'll take Nagin anyday.
"The right people lost this election"
I hope you're not including Lt. Gov. Landrieu in that. If I lived in N.O. I might have voted for Nagin myself. I can't stand the Landrieu bunch; especially his sister, Senator Mary Landrieu who got elected because of her last name.
Nagin- a cartoon mayor for a cartoon city.
I heard a lot of "voters" today saying Nagin should get re-elected because he wasn't afraid to stand up to Bush after Katrina. I think this is a perfect example of how much damage drugs can do to your brain.
The citizenry of New Orleans would have re-elected Nero.
lol, yeah thats about it.
I guess!... LoL...
Is Nagin... Micheal Jackson White, Tony Brown White, or Julian Bond White?.. He looks pretty Vanilla to me..
In their defense, their options were less than stellar.
