Many thrilled to see their president (Vicente Fox in WA State)

When...Mexican President Vicente Fox stepped out of a green Chevy Suburban...about 200 local immigrants remembered where they came from.

Mexico.

"I feel so emotional because it is my president," said 62-year-old Catalina Fernandez, who moved to Pasco 31 years ago. "To meet him, to see him — it gives me such pleasure."

But Fidel Marquez..."We want to say hi to the president,"

When the speakers had all taken their turns at the microphone and the audience stood to watch Fox leave, Marquez said he enjoyed Fox's comments, but was a bit alarmed to learn that factories in Mexican border towns are short 100,000 workers.

"That was a surprise for me to know that in some places there are more jobs than people who want to work," he said.

It surprised Ariana Hernandez as well.

She was 5 years old when she, her two brothers and her parents moved to Washington illegally from Veracruz to join other illegal workers picking apples in Wenatchee.

Still, the 16-year-old Wenatchee High School junior feels connected to the place she was born.

So Wednesday, she and her father, 52-year-old Valentín Hernandez, hopped on the bus to Yakima to hear what more Fox can do for the people living in Mexico before he leaves office at the end of the year.

And Hernandez said she was pleased to hear that if she chooses to return to Mexico, she will find a stronger economy and better health care and education systems.

Because when the mariachis play their brass tunes and the president promises that Mexico misses the millions of its people who now live here, it's a possibility she considers.

"I miss you, too," she said softly. Then she boarded her bus back to Wenatchee.

Funny...I thought the President in this country was Pres. Bush. Period. Like him or not. Fox is just what his name says...he's a fox.

How about hitching a ride home with your president?

31 one years here and George W. Bush isn't YOUR president?

You could be a FReeper, Catalina. ;)

He's not your President anymore because YOU NO LONGER LIVE IN MEXICO, IDIOT!

Do us all a favor - pack your damned bags and go back home to Mexico.

If they're so thrilled to see him, why don't they go home with him?

I'm working on making that post. I was just shocked (silly me) by this headline & article.

When a foreign can lecture us on OUR immigration laws, it's allthe justificaton we need to sut it ALL off for 8 years. Extension option of Congress. Inform ALL Nations to come to binding treaty agreements with the U.S. Most would have little problem with doing this. It's likely covered in diplomatic treaty already. And some nations don't want their brainpower moving out of country anyway.

We look at America and see a homogenous nation. Fox looks at America and he sees 10 per cent of his country and growing everyday.

My exact thought before I even scrolled down to read the posts! Perhaps a fund can be started to buy airline tickets to send Catalina and the rest of the 'immigrants' that miss Fox back to Mexico permanently.

I think Glenn Beck did something similar last yr for Alec Baldwin and a few other wack-a-do's that were expressing interest in moving to Europe after Presidnet Bushes reelection...

If they'd go home, they'd see him more often. I suggest they return to "their" president forthwith.

How insensitive of me.

I guess I didn't read her comments carefully enough; I was too busy responding to a post accusing me of being a Bushbot and pro-illegal immigration.

I wish this lady would drop by and we could both discuss her status, so as we discussed how much I support illegals, I could slip into the next room and call INS. ;)
