Reagan's Navy Chief Seeks Va. Senate Seat
Breitbart ^ | May 28, 2006 | Bob Lewis - AP

Posted on 05/28/2006 4:04:54 PM PDT by RDTF

Thirty-seven summers ago, in the swelter of An Hua Basin, Marine Lt. James H. Webb saw more bloodshed and death than most people see in a lifetime.

Since his decorated tenure in Vietnam, Webb has added hitches as President Reagan's Navy secretary, an Emmy-winning journalist and author of best-selling, military-suspense novels to his made-for-the- movies biography.

Why, then, suddenly run this year as a Democrat to unseat Sen. George Allen, a Republican former governor whom Webb endorsed just six years ago?

"When I look at where this administration has taken its own party, I cannot help but think about the pendulum of history," Webb said. "The pendulum has swung, I think, as far as it can swing given the principles this party had once espoused."

Webb says Allen is part of an arrogant Republican majority in Washington bent on repeating in Iraq the blunders that killed so many of his buddies in Vietnam a generation ago.

He accuses President Bush, whom he backed in 2000, of betraying conservative fiscal governance by pushing the federal debt toward $9 trillion. He claims the GOP, his former party, and Allen in particular are Bush's eager accomplices.

"We really need to get back to a time when the members of Congress will stand up to an administration that is abusing its constitutional privileges," Webb said.

Allen campaign spokesman Dick Wadhams dismissed Webb's criticism with a chuckle, a rhetorical question his only reply: "So is Jim Webb still a Democrat today or did he switch back over to being a Republican?"

"I've always believed that Allen shouldn't run for re-election. Soon after 2006 everybody's going to be gearing up for 2008. Better to take some months off, spend some time with the family, formulate policy and take some trips through the heartland. It's not like the Senate is in danger of losing its Republican majority, since one exists in name only."

I'm glad he's not taiking your advice.
We need him in the Senate and he's not yet the frontrunner for Prez.

My first Navy Achievement Medal certificate is signed by Webb. It is hard to figure him out, on the political side of things.

"The Democrats are lowly, base, immoral, and obscene."

I couldn't agree more, and those are their good points!

This is an old play from an old play book. The former decorated candidate introduces himself to the public. This is followed by a beautiful puff piece written about them in the Washington Post, NY Times, LA Times, Boston Globe or any other commie rag. It is like the west coast offense. Everyone is using it. Fortunately for the United States these are some guys who ran on an "I was in the military and hate war but know how to fight one" platform and lost.

1. Paul Hackett
2. John Kerry
3. Wesley Clarke
4. Jimmy Carter
5. George Mcgovern

I think we can infer that the country does not want these candidates.

Webb is a jerk. The company he's keeping (the Rat party) says everything about his judgment. Not a man to elect to a city council, let alone the Senate. Don't let the uniform fool you.

We need him in the Senate

To do what? Keep a chair warm?

Why stay in the Senate when mere months after he's re-elected he's going to prepare for a Presidential run?

Because
(a) he's a very good Senator (at least compared with 15 RINOs and 45 Democrats), and
(b) odds of him becoming President are not high, even if you put him in the top 3 contenders.
so we lose a senator but dont gain a president. nope, not a good tradeoff.

Democrat Webb polls stronger against George Allen that Democrat Miller...therefore, Freepers, we need to vote MILLER in the June 13 Democrat primary.

VA is an open primary state....ALL registered voters can and should vote.

Also, Dem Harris Miller is a self-funding candidate which will trigger the millionaire's amendment under the campaign finance laws, thus raising the contribution limit for George Allen. Allen could potentially raise up to $12,600 per person or 6 times the regular contribution limit of $2,100 based upon how much Miller pumps into his own campaign.

I thought it was spelled L-O-S-E-R, except here on Free Republic where the preference seems to be to spell it "L-O-O-S-E-R". ;)
