Russian archaeologist says Merv was origin of Zoroastrianism

TEHRAN, June 10 (MNA) – Russian archaeologist Victor Sarianidi believes that Merv, a province in southern Turkmenistan, was the cradle of Zoroastrianism, the Persian service of Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported here Saturday.

According to Sarianidi, his archeological team has recently discovered some Zoroastrians’ temples in the region.

Each has two fire temples -- one was presumably used for religious ceremonies and one for cooking, he added.

The temples date back to some 3,000 years BC, estimated the archaeologist.

Sarianidi had already named the legendary land of Margush as the origin of Zoroastrianism.

Margush is located in Murghab region, Merv.

I have it on good authority (*cough* da Vinci code *cough*) that MEL was the source of Zoroatrianism. Merv was the co-producer, but Mel only brought him on board as a favor to his wife. True story.

Merv was destroyed by the Mongols when Chingghis Quan invaded, and conquered the Khwaresm Empire. I believe the lads returned a few days later and killed whoever had crawled out of the rubble.

The Mongols had the Yasa, or Jasagh, not the First Amendment. Plus, they imbedded reporters - in walls.

I believe Chingghis Quan operated in the same manner at Herat (destroying the city and then having some troops return to catch those hiding in the rubble) the second time he crushed the city, leaving no survivors. He reportedly said something to Muslims to the effect of, "Your God must hate you very much to have created me as your enemy."

I guess that settles it.

Zoroastrianism IS the world's oldest montheistic religion.
