Great news. It is a fact that western Europe needs immigration. Therefore we need mechanisms to seperate the good immigrants and the bad ones. This test is maybe not the final solution but for sure a step into the right direction.
BTW - the same thing is discussed in Germany in the moment.

If so then don't let them in.

Failure to attend the course or pass the exam within five years will trigger an annual fine of almost £700, cuts in benefits or the termination of a residence permit. The cost of sitting the course and taking the exam will be £4,000 per person, although local authorities will pay most of the fees.

It's probably way too late. The Dutch, like France, Germany and other European countries, have allowed too many people from the Third World into their nations. (President Bush, call your office.)
No nation or region, anywhere at anytime in history has ever benefited from multiculturalism. Name one.
Anyone?

The question is how to seperate the "good" and the "bad" immigrants. This is what the Dutch are doing now with this test.

Wrong. The USA is multi-ethnic but there is only one culture - American(ism). Multi-culture is doomed to failure and has yet to succeed anywhere. The previous poster is correct. And the sooner we get rid of the poisonous notion of multi-cuturalism and "diversity" (chirp-chirp, tweet-tweet) the better off we will be...SSZ

I think you are correct. Any large country that has had great contributions from various immigrants always had a powerful central culture that was the culture of the country.
When that weakens to the point of negotiating with each and every new group, then watch out. What you will have then is a luke warm status quo to which few will feel dedicated.
I would say the Roman Empire, when it was expanding and the culture was Roman First, dammit!, and the US, up to this point, are examples of a powerful central culture benefiting mightily from newcomers.
But I would say the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Rome, once it had been washed over with too many disparate groups, represent the destructive side of that scale.

The American culture is the fruit of the merger of many cultures. To me it is the most sucessfull example of multiculturalism.
In Europe you will hardly find any multiculturalism. There are a few parallel cultures that fail to link themselves. This and the lack of integration is the reason why we have so many problems with immigrants on our side of the Atlantic.

Draconian really!!! Quite a MSM label.
How about the alterrnative DRACONIAN law is things don't change. One that would say that all Ajax footall (soccer) matches will be replaced with the stoning of women deemed by Sharia Mullahs to have missed a day wearing the burka.
That is where things would head otherwise.

Questions will be asked about its harbours, dykes and churches. I understand the few remaining churches in Holland are very tolerant of that nation's dykes. The Muslims, on the other hand . . .

Famile Arslan, 34, an immigration lawyer of Turkish descent, said the crackdowns were dividing society between westerners and non-westerners, Muslim and non-Muslim. The Koran, on the other hand, teaches that Muslims and non-Muslims are equals in all respects. (Sarc/)

America was a "melting pot" NOT multicultural. America has ALWAYS had a unique culture-until recently.

It is a fact that western Europe needs immigration. Not really.
It needs children.
A return to Christianity would accomplish the same end.
