Right-Wing Pundit's Work Under Scrutiny By HILLEL ITALIE, AP National Writer

(07-07) 19:17 PDT New York (AP) --

The syndicator of Ann Coulter's newspaper column is looking into allegations that the right-wing pundit has lifted material from other sources.

"We are reviewing the material and expect to have a response some time next week," Kathie Kerr, a spokeswoman for Universal Press Syndicate, told The Associated Press on Friday.

The New York Post and the Web sites Raw Story and the Rude Pundit have raised numerous questions about Coulter's columns, which appear in more than 100 newspapers, and her best-selling "Godless," already notorious for the author's calling four 9/11 widows, who supported Democrat John Kerry for president in 2004, "harpies" thriving on their husbands' demise.

Kerr said that the press syndicate had not discussed the allegations with Coulter, who was not immediately available for comment Friday. The publisher of "Godless," the Crown Publishing Group, issued a statement saying it had reviewed the "the allegations of plagiarism" in her book and "found them to be as trivial and meritless as they are irresponsible."

"As an experienced author and attorney, Ms. Coulter knows when attribution is appropriate, as underscored by the 19 pages and hundreds of endnotes contained in 'Godless,'" Crown's senior vice president and publisher, Steve Ross, said in the statement. [...]

To be honest am not a big fan of Coulter's works. Pretty much follow a repetative pattern of listing how Rats are crazy, liars, hate the US, etc etc. Somewhat tiresome and depressing as we already know that and I really don't want to be reminded of that. Some of her newspaper articles are dynamite though. Her attacks during the Miers disgrace were excellent and stinging. And I seriously doubt she's been plagarizing. Now how about some pics? :> Rules u know!

Really poor judgment. (jmo)

During the Clinton era she was often hilarious. I found "High Crimes & Misdemeanors" to be a good book for background as I watched impeachment unfold. However, she's lost something in more recent times.

lifted material from other sources.

Ha! The liberals behind this BS determined that she "cribbed" from HER OWN COLUMNS (which is what columnists do when they write a book) and a Planned Parenthood website she was quoting to prove a point. They are simply DESPERATE.

Reason for the desperation? Time is running out on the '60s generation, and they have Bill Clinton, John Kerry, Al Gore and their various sycophants as the ne plus ultra of their existence -- none of whom history will treat kindly.

They keep trying for "legacy." It's there. Failure. All over the place.

You notice how the letter from Media Matters calls for Random House to pull the book from store shelves? That's what this is all about. Like the two Dumbocrat NJ Assemblywomen who called for NJ bookstores to ban her book. Libs can't mount a convincing counterargument to conservatives, so they resort to censorship. They're so afraid that if conservatives are allowed to talk, people will realize we're talking sense. But on the other hand, we conservatives know that the more libs talk, the more they shoot themselves in the foot.

Media Matters has received "more than $2 million in donations from wealthy liberals" and "was developed with help from the newly formed Center for American Progress".

Center for American Progress

Their President and Chief Executive Officer is John Podesta, former chief of staff to former United States President Bill Clinton.

the Center has gathered a group of high-profile senior fellows, including Lawrence Korb, Gene Sperling, and, most recently, former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle.

The Center also produces the Bill Press Show

David Brock Group Backpedals on Soros Funding
By Marc Morano
CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer
March 03, 2005

(CNSNews.com) - Media Matters for America, the group headed by conservative turned liberal writer David Brock, has changed course on its stated association with billionaire liberal financier George Soros.

After initially claiming on Dec. 1, 2004 that "neither Media Matters nor its president and CEO David Brock has received any money from Soros or from any organization with which he is affiliated," the group is no longer disavowing any connection with groups "affiliated" with Soros.

The Media Matters shift came after Cybercast News Service questioned the group's financial ties and demonstrated that there were numerous and extensive links between Media Matters and several Soros "affiliates" like MoveOn.org, the Center for American Progress and Soros ally Peter Lewis.

http://tinyurl.com/z84fc

Horowitz said he is not surprised that Brock's group altered its statement after being questioned about donations. "[Brock is] a guy who turned on his friends. He was a sleazy gossip sort of writer when he was on the right, and he's a sleazy gossip writer on the left, and an unscrupulous one on both sides," Horowitz said.

Among the individuals that Aman mentioned was Peter Lewis, the chairman of the Cleveland based insurance company Progressive Corporation and a close confidant of Soros. Lewis and Soros are so interlinked that Lewis' son Jonathan told Jane Mayer of The New Yorker in October 2004 that his father and Soros were "like a married couple."

According to Carlisle of the NLPC, "Peter Lewis works very closely with Soros. When Soros works with other groups, they match each other's giving." Soros and Lewis "are pretty much comrades in arms when it comes to left wing giving," Carlisle added, noting that both men played a critical role in the funding of MoveOn.org, a liberal group that posted on its website last year TV commercials comparing President Bush to Adolf Hitler.

Soros has reportedly given $3 million to CAP and its senior vice president, Morton H. Halperin, is also the director of Soros's Open Society Institute.

I just ordered Coulter's book from Amazon. It will help me to keep my mouth shut when my vocally liberal, ACLU-member sister comes to visit next week.

I don't care if she said it. I could care less. All I'm saying is that she's going to pay for that sentence for a very long time in ways that she will not appreciate. She's already beginning to absorb it now with this plagiarism claim. But she hasn't seen anything yet.

And to think that she ALREADY had made her point (that needed to be made, indeed) in the sentences before the last one. It was just stupid and will bring her nothing but problems for years. Just wait and see what happens to her over the next five or so years.

You say it here yourself. She will be dealt with and it won't be pretty.

A thinking decent person just doesn't put in print (no matter if it's true or not) that women are enjoying their husbands' deaths ............... if not just for the women's children.

Ann was wrong and they'll make her pay over the years. She will be caricatured as the evil conservative, ruthless b*tch for decades.

And it needn't have happened at all. She already had made her very important point about the left's "victims" being sent out as "untouchable spokesmen". Such an error in judgment.

Is that sentence a statement or a question? What may you be trying to proclaim or ask?

If you are trying to ask me if I condone the left dragging out the myriad of professional victims, I do NOT!

The left's tactic that Ann pointed out so well is pathetic on their part. The demented John Murtha is just another example of the left hauling out a relic of a Marine to say things about the war and the military that no one should say.

Ann just unnecessarily went a little too far. (jmo) You have missed my sentiments, but that is no surprise.

Its trivial. I'm sure they checked into her sources before the book came out. As for the column, mere similarity of thought is NOT plagiarism. There has to be identical unattributed word-for-word copying of another's work. I'm sure after the rash of liberals we've seen busted for being less than truthful about how they wrote as well as what they wrote, it was a matter of time before Ann Coulter's work came under scrutiny. Let's hope she addresses this in her column next week.

Ann is a master of satire.............

But liberals can't take a joke.

Ann's statements about the NJ girls will only benefit her with more publicity.

She gives libs a dose of their own medicine and they can't stand it.

Ann's statement that these NJ women are enjoying the deaths of their husbands is nothing more than satire.

Crictics of Ann apparently do not understand that satire is the art of making a joke by exaggerating the truth.

However, these NJ girls are indeed capitalizing the death of their husbands which is far worse IMHO thus providing Ann the opportunity to satirize them.

Ann is particularly funny because she uses satire so well.

The best way to annoy a liberal is to make fun of them and Ann gives us all a lesson on how to do it.

A little plagiarism is like a little cannibalism? Here is the Monty Python take (phone rings):

"Hello!! As a naval officer I abhor the implication that the Royal Navy is a haven for cannibalism!! It is well known that we now have the problem relatively under control. It's just the R.A.F. who now suffer the largest casualties in this regard! But what do you think the Argyles ate at Aden? ARABS!!?

Yours, etc, Captain V.J. Schmellig. In a white wine sauce with shallots smothered in garlic!"

Anyway, it's about censorship, IMHO. Charging plagiarism is the weapon used to attempt to silence Ann Coulter. Failed before, won't succeed this time either.

So what!

Ann is not a tenured professor at some leftist university. She, and others like her, are not proclaiming "original thought".

This is nothing more than an attempt by the moonbats to avoid debating her. They know she will destroy them eg Alan Clomes, so they are going to use the plagiarism defense to avoid defending their shallow excuse for intellect.

Indeed. I'd always thought plagiarisim was stealing an idea (and so neccessarialy the wording) NOT descriptions. The only similar passages I've seen quoted involve journalist type descriptions of things, in which case every newspaper everyday is guilty of plagiarisim.

Right. Ann is piloried by a statement that some find offensive. A Liberal can say anything and it is passed over (Sen. Byrd knows "white Ni**ers", Plugs Biden says you have to have an Indian accent to go into a 7-11, Jessie talks about Hymietown, etc.) but when Trent Lott jokingly says a former segregationist may have made a good president ergo Lott prefers segregation or Rush Limbaugh says Donavan McNabb is a media creation so he hates Blacks, then they must be cast into the Lake of Fire without any chance of redemption (even though their initial comments were innocently uttered, have many pure interpretations, etc.).
That's the way it is folks. Live with it BUT defend conservatives due to the unfairness of it all and don't pile on. Point out the double standard and hypocracy.

Right. Liberals have convinced thenselves that "everyone does it" when it comes to plagarism (e.g. Doris Kearns Goodwin, Joe Biden) to they have been combing over Ann's work with aide of special software to "prove" she did too. Just an attempt to discredit her. They wont debate the points, just try to slay the messenger. So far Michelle Malkin is destroying them with impunity (except Chris Matthews spitting all over her) and they don't know what to do with her. I mean the fact that she is a diminutive Filipino-American and graduated Oberlin sort of puts her in categories they don't want to mess with. If they start getting brave, she can throw on a garlic necklace.

Ann's statement that these NJ women are enjoying the deaths of their husbands is nothing more than satire.

I'll agree and disagree with you at the same time. I think the 9-11 Widders needed a comeuppance, but Ann could have worded it a bit more gracefully.

Yet at the same time, she's trying to sell her book. What better way to sell a few copies than to get Her Heinousness to denounce it? Ann's a bomb-thrower, and this one has the left in a snippy mood... ;^)

BTW: is it me, or has no liberal come forward to actually challenge her on what she's actually saying?
