A Few of FR's Finest ....Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I could no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I had been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that didn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why we've created a place for just that. This is a friendly room in JimRob's house where FReeper FRiends can gather every day and just say hello if that's all they want to do.
There's more of course. We sometimes feature different FReepers, with a little background information on who they are and what makes them who they are, along with a few photos you might not have seen on other threads; sometimes others write an essay for us to post as the feature for the day; sometimes our presentation is a human interest story found elsewhere that you might not have read; sometimes special holiday threads; but whatever the topic of the day, it is always with FR's Finest in mind and that is YOU!
If you would like to be featured, or would like to see someone else featured, please send me a private FR mail.
Every Monday we will post the photos of FR's Military Personnel that I have collected and put into groups; these will be available to view through a link the remainder of the week - every day just a click away. :) If you would like to add a photo of yourself or a loved one in the military, past or present, please let me know; I will hold it until I have enough for a new group.
Thank you, and please have fun with us...every day! ~ Billie

Actually, I am indebted to King George of the 1600's, snugs.
My forebear through my maternal grandfather, was Thomas Smith, who went to Charles Town in The Colonies, and was rewarded by the King with a number of *landgraves* - each one 42,000 acres of Carolina land. [It was not divided into North and South Carolina until 1729, and he later became a governor of the vast territory, from 1693-1694.]
He was a very successful shipping merchant, planter, the town surgeon and mayor of Charles Town. As was common at that time, when his wife died giving birth, he married quickly to provide a mother to the child and his older ones.
His choice was the widow of the Dutchman who created Medway Plantation west of town. Most of the bricks used in building Charles Town came from there.
With a large family and his shipping business, they lived opposite that in his house right across the street from the river.
In the Spring Plantation Tour of 1968, my sister Anne and I did the all day, 3-county circuit of famous plantations, and Medway was the last stop.
Not being snobbish, and a tad irreverent, we took photos of one another by "Papa Tom's" gravesite..:)) At the time, I lived just 6 miles from it, but it is open to the public only once a year.

Hi, Cal. I went looking to find it also . Thought maybe it was on the "Alaska" thread that I posted last October, but looks like it wasn't. However, in the process, I found some wonderful posts by our Maggie about her time spent there. Alaska was one of her favorite topics and she could sure tell a good story!

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden,

for I am meek and lowly in heart:
and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

God's love for you is so mighty and true.
like A flowing river he gives mercy to me and to You.
Think of him first in the things your Going through.
Then he will lead you and
Guide you and show you what to do.
Jesus Loves us so much my friend.
He promised he'd Be with us even in the end.
There is no Mountain to high or Valley to low,
Where the Love, Mercy, and Grace of God can't go.
May The lord bless and keep you in all you do.
Just think of him first in all your going Through.
God's mighty love will be there for You.
As sure as King David fought the giant Of the land,

Walked across on dry land to be free.
This is God's great love for you and me.
Shout it on The Mountain top's and over the Sea.
This is God's Great Love he's given to you and me!"
"Heaven's Choice
by Patricia Annette Roden
In this workd I know I'll find
the one that God had created to be mine.
I had looked and searched with no success
and I had really, truely did my best.
So God, send those angels down to me
Just so I'll know where he could be.
Where he's at and how will I know
If he's the one that I'll love so.
Then, I heard an Angel say
Look now, for he is coming your way.
Then I turned and there he stood
Oh-my-god he looked so good.
I looked toward Heaven and gave a big smile
Just my way of thanking God, for awhile.
He knew what I would like best
That's why he sent You... instead of the rest."

Not often in life are we fortunate enough to have someone of Maggie's character and personality present themselves to us.
She shared her life with us, her family, and her relationship with The King of Kings.
So often in her writings, we were taken on the journey with her. Her journey with her siblings as they traveled the paths of life in those pre-war years, and later we were fortunate to journey through Marine Boot Camp with that new recruit.
We traveled the Al-Can Highway in that Chevy Greenbrier to a new duty station in Alaska. We felt the pain a military wife feels when her husband was assigned overseas and the disrespect he endured returning from the Vietnam War.
We tagged along with her to her numerous medical appointments, sharing the heart-breaking news of so many diagnosis's, and all the dialysis treatments.
Our journeys together included visits with her "sistah" and sister. We were her guests as she introduced us to her friends at church and camp meetings at Heritage Village.
All along the entire journey, her faith never faltered and she looked forward to the day that she would be in the presence of her Savior. She shared that faith with many of us and we are the richer in Christ's blessing because of it. I suspect that because of her witness of her faith, many, many folks have been brought to a closer relationship with God, and lives have been re-dedicated to serve Him.
I'm proud to call her friend and spiritual partner. I've enjoyed the journey.
Well Done, Good and Faithful Servant.

Mr. Mayor, your Wonderful Tribute to our Lady, and the Offerings of FRiendship and Love from our Fellow Freepers to her have Made me Even More Grateful to our Lord that He Allowed me to Know this Beautiful and Precious Person.
Our Lord was Truly her Life, and whenever I Think of her I Remember that she Loved to Lift Up our Savior, and Praise and Glorify His Name. Now she is with her Soul's Beloved, and her Joy Knows No Bounds, as she Rejoices in His Spirit and His Love.
I could Never Put Into Words my Respect, Admiration, and Love for my Sweet Lady. Her Kindness to me, and to All, was Like a Gentle Breeze from our Lord of His Kindness and Peace. I Loved So Many Things About our Maggie, and I Also Loved that she Loved the Name of my Kitty, Called "the Fang-Face!" She Said that his Name would just Crack her Up whenever she would See it. I Love that, and I Love my Sweet Lady with All my Heart.
My Lady and I Shared a Love for our Lord's Creations, and a Special Creation, a Beautiful Yellow Flower Came Up in my Yard a Few Days Ago, and I have Been Wishing All Morning that I could Pick the Flowers, and Give them to our Sweet Maggie. I Found a Picture on the Net that Looks Exactly Like it, but my Web-Hosting Attempt Failed. But my Lady can See the Flower in my Yard, and Knows my Heart, and those Flowers are for you, my Precious Sister in Christ.
{I'll Love you Forever and Always}

A sick man turned to his doctor, as he was
preparing to leave the examination room and said,
"Doctor, I am afraid to die.
Tell me what lies on the other side."
Very quietly, the doctor said, "I don't know."
"You don't know ?
You, a Christian man, do not know what is on the other side?"
The doctor was holding the handle of the door;
on the other side came a sound of scratching and whining,
and as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room
and leaped on him with an eager show of gladness.
Turning to the patient, the doctor said,
"Did you notice my dog?
He's never been in this room before.
He didn't know what was inside.
He knew nothing except that his master was here,
and when the door opened, he sprang in without fear.
I know little of what is on the other side of death,
but I do know one thing..
I know my Master is there and that is enough."

Knowing and seeing all the beautiful sunrises and sunsets Maggie has posted, methinks she'll provide a helping hand to the creation of those in the future. God needs our help here on earth reaching the lost, I imagine he'll accept Maggie's help in Heaven.
