A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....07-10-06....Military Monday ~ Tribute to LadyX
Billie, The Mayor

Posted on 07/09/2006 8:59:29 PM PDT by The Mayor

A Few of FR's Finest
....Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I could no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I had been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that didn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why we've created a place for just that. This is a friendly room in JimRob's house where FReeper FRiends can gather every day and just say hello if that's all they want to do.
There's more of course. We sometimes feature different FReepers, with a little background information on who they are and what makes them who they are, along with a few photos you might not have seen on other threads; sometimes others write an essay for us to post as the feature for the day; sometimes our presentation is a human interest story found elsewhere that you might not have read; sometimes special holiday threads; but whatever the topic of the day, it is always with FR's Finest in mind and that is YOU!
If you would like to be featured, or would like to see someone else featured, please send me a private FR mail.
Every Monday we will post the photos of FR's Military Personnel that I have collected and put into groups; these will be available to view through a link the remainder of the week - every day just a click away. :)   If you would like to add a photo of yourself or a loved one in the military, past or present, please let me know; I will hold it until I have enough for a new group.
Thank you, and please have fun with us...every day! ~ Billie

Hi Nan, I have been reading the thread and responding as I go and jumped fwd to start working backwards. I have only gotten to 117 posts.

There is so much Love and wonderful tributes here to Maggie.
I will continue where I left off and the thread will continue on as far as I'm concerned.

How are you doing, OK?

7, the Lord number for completion. Amazing how He works things for His Glory. That was clearly a message from Maggie to comfort you. If you email me the pics, I will add them to the page I created for her. What ever you want to do with them let me know, K..

Betcha she sneaks a visit to the Rainbow Bridge once in awhile ... )

LadyX spent the day with me at the Bridge. Here is part of an email to lonestar in March of 2004.

Have donated my body to The Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, so medical students can benefit from seeing a badly flawed but tough body. I have been so very blessed by God... and will gladly go when He thinks it is time. The hard part will be when I am the one who has to decide to cease treatment, and let go, taking about 3 weeks to wind down - - hope I can do it well, with His strength and grace.....

All the hostesses and hosts know my situation, and about 50 others, so I am free to be honest with them. The wonderful prayer support is FELT and APPRECIATED so much!

I am indeed blessed. I might get to meet your Weinie before you see her, and convey your love...

And that's what we did. I sat in her lap and she patted me and she laughed when I licked her in the face.

LadyX and Gert, her stuffed purple gorilla, helped make me famous. But that's another story.....Weinie

One of the hardest things I did was to take those pics and crop, resize and put them together. It was tough with blurry eyes.

I just went outside and the moon is so bright, it is illuminating the houses and the sky. Perfect time for a Prayer. The thought came to me that Jesus surely said to Maggie, Well done my Faithful Servant.

I felt Maggie was watching me from above.. Comforting thought.

Mrs Mayor sent this VIA FRmail to Maggie a few weeks ago. I had to share it with you all.

Hey Lady!

What a warrior! I sure would like to sit down with you, some whiskey and mebbe a coupla' cigars so we could swap war stories, though I don't have any that'd beat a leg that wandered on to heaven ahead o' me. That eagle, globe & anchor planted upon my fanny, right cheek to be precise, doesn't even come close. My sister got hers on the other side, cuz' she's a left-cheek Liberal. But that's just between you & me, comrade.

You've been in my daily prayers, and I'll continue to pray for your quick recovery. But now I'm gonna tell Him how deeply grateful I am for you, and for how you've been such a special wonderful friend to my Rus.

Take care of your body, God Bless, lotsa lotsa love, Semper Fi and.....

A couple of years ago, I sent a VHS tape to WVNan and LadyX. The tape included a musical drama written and produced at our church.

The title of this particular drama was "This Side of Heaven". Briefly, the story revolves around a young music minister's search for music to use in worship service. As he thumbs through the hymnal, he falls asleep and begins a dream where he awakens in Hymn Writer's Corner of Heaven. As the story unfolds, hymn writers tell their own story how each wrote their hymns.

One hymn in particular was "It Is Well", written by Horatio Spafford upon reaching the spot where his children vanished in a shipwreck while crossing the Atlantic.

"It Is Well, With My Soul..." I feel may have been Maggie's thoughts over the years, and we here at The Finest have been blessed with her presence - this side of heaven.

Thank you, sweet Maj. I just took the link DaBearOne posted to that pic and "Home free!" was what came to mind as I gazed on that vision. I thought the picture was so pretty; I just did the img src for his link, is all. I couldn't get the idea of "Home free!" out of my head and then I remembered a song I've heard on the radio and it seemed so fitting too.

Dear Maggie: Home Free Eternally! Praise the Lord.

We loved our LadyX. I am reading every word.

Same here; I don't want to miss a single moment or any precious memories. Dave, I really appreciated your tribute (some posts back) and it's got me thinking maybe I will share some more. I was thinking on Sunday about how our Lady Maggie was Jesus here - 1 John 4:16 says plainly, "He that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God and God in him." And Jesus told us that there is no greater love than that a man lay down his life for his friends. Maggie did that here all the time: disregarding her own pain and trials so that she could be here to help others with theirs. I bet she did it all day long wherever she was because she was so full of God - she just didn't give any heed to the cross she bore, but reached out to help bear the weight of the crosses we all carried. She fulfilled the law of love. So this poem or song came to me and I wrote it down. It's for Maggie; it's what she lived:

Where Love Is, There Thou Art

Hanging on a cross and bleeding
Yet for others interceding
Counting not this pain but theirs
Travailing not in pity but in prayer

To picture Thee in my distress
To help some other in their test
To think not mine but theirs the pain
To comfort them and ease their strain

This is love: Here Thee I see
When another's weight counts more to me
When other woes than mine transpire
To burden me, to bid me higher

To so reach, Your throne ascend
On bended knee, but for a friend
This grace I ask, for Christ I seek
And see in such my Savior meek

Where Love is, there Thou art
This my aim, this my part:
To bring Thee near, O Love Divine,
Through this willing vessel You made mine.

Spiritual Checkup

READ: Proverbs 4:20-27

Examine me, O Lord. —Psalm 26:2

Given a choice, I’d probably not voluntarily visit my doctor for a physical exam. I’m inclined to assume that everything is okay and not bother my doctor about it. But since my wife is a nurse, I don’t have a choice. I go in for regular exams.

And given a choice, many of us are a little afraid of spiritual checkups as well. After all, if we check our spirit too closely, we might have to change a habit or two. We might need something like an “attitude-ectomy.”

I suggest that we get over our reluctance. With God’s guidance, let’s undergo a spiritual checkup, using Proverbs 4:20-27 as a checklist.

Ears (v.20): Are we hearing God’s Word clearly and with understanding? Are we doing what those words tell us?

Eyes (vv.21,25): Are we keeping our eyes on the teachings that will guide us toward righteousness?

Heart (v.23): Are we protecting our heart from evil?

Tongue (v.24): Is our mouth clean and pure?

Feet (v.26): Are we walking straight toward God’s truth without wavering?

How did you do on your examination? Are there areas where you need to take action? Regular checkups will help to restore your spiritual vitality. Dave Branon

Create in me a clean heart, O God,
Show me the way that Jesus has trod;
Then I will tell of Your saving grace,
Until the day when I see Your face.  —Hess

A spiritual checkup is the key to spiritual health.

and a busy Military Monday.. wonderful thread with a tribute to a wonderful woman who is in the glory of her reward.

Down to the last day of confusion before my bro arrives tomorrow.. I unfortunately have a command performance today 3:30 to about 10:30 which will REAALLY cut into my efforts here.

Would be just normal chaos w/o the floods a few weeks ago. Now it is well... not too pretty!

Here is the poem I was telling you about yesterday.

It was on the back of a beautiful picture of Jesus in the clouds going towards the light.

I don't know who the author was/is

But I though it fit Maggie very well and it sounds very much like what she would say.

Safely Home

I am home in Heaven, dear ones; Oh, so happy and so bright! There is perfect joy and beauty In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over, Every restless tossing passed; I am now at peace forever, Safely home in Heaven at last. at

Did you wonder I so calmly Trod the valley of the shade? Oh! But Jesus’ love illumined Every dark and fearful glade.

And He came Himself to meet me In that way so hard to tread; And with Jesus’ arm to lean on, Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely, For I love you dearly still; Try to look beyond earth’s shadows, Pray to trust our Father’s will.

There is work still waiting for you, So you must not idly stand; Do it now, while life remaineth- You shall rest in Jesus’ land.

When the work is all completed, He will gently call you home; Oh, the rapture of that meeting, Oh, the joy to see you come!

Anon.

You write such beautiful words Carbine. Thank you for the poem. That song "I'll Be Seeing You" is sung by Kate Smith, who was very famous when Maggie and I were children. We loved to recall our childhood days in the deep South, and our memories were so similar. That is why we could first "connected". She grew up in Fla. and I in Ala. We both moved a lot and had connections to the same places. I lived in Miami and Coral Gables is part of that city. So when she talked about CG, I knew the places she was describing. We both lived in Va., My husband is from Ohio, I was at the Air Force Base in Rapid City, S.D. several times when my husband's band played at the NCO Club there. My husband is a former Marine. We were both married twice and knew what it was like to have little ones to care for alone. Although her disease was so much more serious than mine, we both had a chronic disease that demanded adjustments in what we could do. We leaned on each other a lot in private. She truly was the wind beneath my wings, and God will bless her and reward her for her love and care. She was the most giving person I've ever met.

I suppose we should move on, but I think some of us may feel the need to stay here for a bit longer. I have many things to get done today and must be about my Father's business. Everyone have a blessed day. Thankk you, Billie, for providing this wonderful "oasis" for Free Republic's Finest. (((((Billie)))))
