10:15 Israel intends to impose sea and air blockade on Lebanon (Army Radio)

I went to bed but couldn't sleep. Just got back up and this happens. Boy, are the early to bed people gonna be surprised tomorrow!
Israel can't blockade Lebanon. Lebanon has a huge border with Syria. Any stuff Hezbollah needs will just come in through Syria. THis whole blockade is pointless.
Israel could create a "refugee crisis" heading in Syria's direction?
No, the needle would have gone up for an occupation of Lebanon.
The blockade is more clever. Cut the whole country off from civilization. Send in SpecOps on raids. Overfly the country and bomb targets as they are found, day after day.
No one can leave. No imports arrive. Let the whole population weigh civilization/luxuries versus holding those Israeli soldiers.
Israel says navy blocks Lebanese seaports
13/07/2006 07:41
JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel said on Thursday its naval vessels were in Lebanons territorial waters and blocking access to ports as part of an offensive launched after Lebanese Hizbollah guerrillas captured two soldiers in a border clash.
"Since this morning Israeli naval vessels have enforced a full naval closure on Lebanon, because Lebanons ports are used to transfer both terrorists and weapons to the terror organisations operating in Lebanon," a military spokesman said.

Silly rabbit...anything on the road to/from Syria is a *target* for the Israeli air force.
It's Highway of Death, Part 2.
My own views are as such:
Israel has shown many times that it wants peace with its neighbors, even to the point of of harming itself as a Nation. But it's neighbors have shown time and again that they will except nothing but the destruction of Israel.
Therefore I say Israel must lay down the gauntlet and show once and for all that it cannot be destroyed. Enough is enough.
The border with Syria is still fully open. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the Syrians are "invited" back in to save their Lebanese brothers. The stuff will just come in through Syrian ports at Latakia and through Damascus. This blockade is just pr. All huff and no puff.
So, Israel will effectively declare war on Syria is what you're saying? I don't buy it. Further, this would give the Syrians the cover they need to re-enter Lebanon. And I bet Hezbollah has stocks in the Bekaa that can last for years. They haven;t been doing nothing for the past 6 years. They;ve been preparing for this day.
Syria's not going to do squat with the U.S. Army on its Iraqi border.
Unlike armchair pundits, Assad knows full well that the U.S. could re-conquer Iraq at its leisure if necessary, thus its Armor is free to take Damascus should the U.S. decide that is in our interest.
Which is to say: Syria may talk big, but will act very, very little.
I will hang around off and on for a few hours. One thing is certain, if they have not released those hostages by the time we wake up, the situation will have worsened.
Any bets on these "Hostages" being on a certain Iranian Aircraft when it leaves Damascus shortly?
Note the releatively muted US and so far European condemnation of Israels actions against Hamas.
Now Israel is moving against Hezbollah, after Hezbollah launched attacks on northern Israel and captured two Israeli soldiers.
Two quick theories:
Theory One: Iranian insanity on nukes has tried European patience. Hezbollah is a financial creature of Tehran.
Theory Two, cast as a fair question: Have the Egyptians, Fatah, Saudis, and Lebanese governments given Israel an implicit go-ahead? The strategem: Reduce these violent factions (Hamas and Hezbollah) and then every one will re-set the chess table.
