California Governor: Angelides (D) 46%, Schwarzenegger (R) 44%
Competitive Gubernatorial Race, Lopsided Senate Race
Our first election poll here since California's June 6 primaries shows the Democratic gubernatorial nominee, Phil Angelides, with a narrow lead of 46% to 44% over the incumbent.
Our April survey had shown Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger opening up a substantial lead over the Democratic contenders, but by May the race had tightened once again.
Immigration, health care and taxes are among the issues that have emerged in the campaign.
Meanwhile, in the race for U.S. Senate Democratic incumbent Dianne Feinstein continues to amble to reelection, flattening Republican Dick Mountjoy 60% to 33% in our poll. Feinstein is viewed favorably by 56%, Mountjoy by 27%. Forty-two percent (42%) say they don't yet have an opinion of the Republican.
Governor Schwarzenegger earns approval from 51% of the state's voters for the way he has handled his job. Forty-nine percent (49%) disapprove, including 26% who "strongly" disapprove.

The telephone survey of 500 Likely Voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports July 5, 2006. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 4.5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. (see Methodology)
Californians dont want a worm as their leader. Bottom line.
This will change since no one wants a dem as gov but, conservatives have left the Arnold camp.

New York - A latest opinion poll reveals that actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is also the Republican California governor, has extended his lead over his nearest rival in the upcoming state elections set to take place in November.
According to hollywood.com, actor-turned-politician Schwarzenegger is thought to have 44 percent of the eligible electorate behind him, with 37 percent backing Democratic candidate Phil Angelides.
In March, Schwarzenegger held a fragile 3 percent opinion poll lead over Angelides. His increased popularity is attributed to his decision to send National Guardsmen to the Mexican border in to keep illegal immigrants out of California.
Austrian-born Schwarzenegger, 58, took up office in 2003 after Democrat Gray Davis was recalled by voters.
I agree with you.
Polls don't elect anyone.
If Ahnold is defeated at least we get to see him in the next Terminator movie huh?
Who could resist voting for this guy?
After Angeledis said he would approve Gay Marriage in California he lost the election. This poll must have been oversampled in Gay Francisco.
When do Democrats vacation? Winter? Or don't Democrats vacation?
heh, yeah right --- this poll is to be believed. You mean to say an ugly white guy would beat a movie star? No way, this poll is a prepaid phony survey.
Very easily. RINO as he may be, Arnold is about as good as you're going to get in Cali.
That would equate to <10% of registered Democrats. likely to vote, who strongly disapprove of the Austrian's governance.
Doesn't seem to match the poll results does it? Typically, if a partisan opponent has only a 10% strong disapproval, that opponent is likely to have a large lead in the poll.
It would actually be better for the GOP, I think, if Schwarzenegger lost. Let Angelides try to do better than Arnold did. I don't think he can do it. CA is headed for insolvency, and I'd just as soon he get the blame.
"It would actually be better for the GOP, I think, if Schwarzenegger lost. "

Most ludicrous statement of the year. "losing is winning" -- it's insanity.
Schwarzenegger is not a conservative. When you're dealing with a liberal masquerading as a conservative, winning might very well be losing.
Arnold will win easily. I wouldn't be surprised if this poll was taken in either the LA or SF area.
