Either way, I think children and the instruments of warfare shouldn't mix.
They're already involved. They live there.
And actually this is a great way for them to feel more powerful in their daily lives.
I'm actually kind inclined to agree with you....
I always make fun of the mindless death cults in the West Bank dressing their kids up, so I'm a little leery of seeing this as a great PR move for the Israeli's.
But I'm not there on the ground, so it's just me 2 cents, just thinking of how this photo can be used against Israel, 'cause you know it will be....

While I am not Jewish, I say Shalom and I thank you for your rightful measure of proper thinking and allegiance to the fight of good versus evil.
I'm reminded of the admonishment, " Suffer the little ones to come unto me."
I find that hard to believe, no offense intended. They look to be eigth graders. I don't recall the Brits resorting to child labor during WWII, especially if it involved something as potentially dangerous as a hand grenade.
Yeah, they do look young, but in the Imperial War Museum in London, they have pictures of pre teens carrying grenade assemblies (w/o fuses) in boxes...whether they actually screwed the fuses to Comp B packed grenade bodies...i doubt it also. I do know that midschool aged boys assembled STENS all day long (I have a couple of STEN guns that look like they are assembled by teenagers ;)....but I would agree with you that these girls are a little younger I guess. Still....we get each other.

Do you think Israeli children are panty waists? They grow up in households where there are at least two issued arms from the Israeli Defense Forces because EVERYONE serves in the military reserve. Every Israeli of a certain age serves in the military, and Israeli children are prepared from an early age to understand that they will one day also have a firearm in their closet.
When I was in college, I took Hebrew at our local community college [I'm not Jewish] the year the '67 war broke out. A girl--girl--in my class was called up as soon as the war broke out. She spent five days trying to get a priority into the country. By the time she arrived, much of the fighting was moving toward the fleeing Egyptian army. She ended up as a translator helping to round up prisoners because she is fluent in Egyptian. When she was a school girl, she was schooled in basic military operations.
THAT is what Israeli children do. If you don't like it, why don't you move to Israel, run of Knesset and change it. But don't thrust your fears onto Israeli children. They have enough to be concerned about.
