A reader e-mails: "John, I'm as conservative as they come but your correspondents could have a point about what gets written in these public fora. Check out some of the knuckle-draggers posting at www.freerepublic.com sometime." UPDATE: Gerry Daly of RedState e-mails that I'm being unfair to Free Republic, which does moderate and delete inappropriate material. Its guidelines include : "Free Republic reserves the right to remove any postings that are considered inappropriate. Examples of inappropriate posts are those that are off-subject or contain advertising, pornography, obscene material, racist material, bigotry, Nazi (or other hate group) material, materials promoting violence, threats or illegal acts, etc." Couldn't find anything comparable at tpmcafe or DailyKos.
Sounds like something from the DU
There are more SMART people here at FR than anywhere!! I have requested very obscure things and within minutes, have gotten the answers WITH links!!! Thank you fellow freepers....proud to be amongst you!!
I just checked and my knuckles still don't hang below my knees, let alone drag. Must be self-projection.
Podhoretz did a very poor job of defending FR.
The least he could've done was format his post. ;-)
You've just pointed out that FReepers are obsessive compulsive political junkies. ;-)
I was going to send this in sooner, but there was too much blood on my keyboard from my bleeding knuckles. I accidently hit a liberal in his nose and broke his finger, then scrapped my knuckles on his teeth while trying to help him get up.
However, we sure have our share of people who think they know it all. :)
Some of what is attributed to freeper posting are posted by quickly zotted trolls who are NOT freepers. I've seen perfectly awful things quoted elsewhere that came from someone who was here about half an hour (if that) and their posts removed or ridiculed in a zot thread. I think that in some cases, they come here solely for that purpose--they post something ugly just so they can claim freepers write that kind of stuff all the time.
better that than one's belly or rear end
knuckledragger would be a cool screen name
"I'm as conservative as they come"= "I'm a lifelong Republican, but..."
Who cares what the chardonnay Republican media elites think?
Podhoretz posted a gratuitous and unsubstantiated slam on FR because he is no friend of FR. He got called on it and so he posted an update containing someone else's lame defense of FR. "JPod" blows.
Some people on FR don't understand the need for zots and banning trolls. (A troll was baiting you today, I noticed.) This kind of slam underscores the need for giving trolls the immediate heave-ho.
Yep! A brand spanking newbie! At first I thought it was just ignorant, so offered some informative information. Then I realized it was just stupid and ignored it. ;*)
The email was signed Andrew Sullivan
He should know the proper form is, I voted for Bush two times but,.....
Knuckledragger is a complete giveaway.
Pray for W and Our Troops
I'm surprised he doesn't know about DU.
The brain trust here is AMAZING. I agree with you 100 percent, excepting those who worm their way into ZotLand. (Thanks to all the moderators.)
My knuckles are kinda banged up but I think its from hitting my wife
For only $19.99 you can own a lovely set of 5 knuckle pads, designed with comfort and mobility in mind. No more bloodied knuckles every time you walk from the computer to the restroom and refrigerator. Pain-free wandering is at hand! Call now! Available in red, white and blue.
But wait! Call within the next 15 minutes, and we'll send an extra 3 knuckle pads at no extra charge! That's 8 knuckle pads for the price of 5!
Absolutely correcto! That's one of the great things about F/R. I learn something on F/R about politics, history, literature, technology, and even cooking (!!!) just about every day. I wonder if the same could be said for Kos or DU. Even if one filtered out the volumes of 'hate Bush'-speak from those sites, I think not.
That is one of the greatest advantages of FreeRepublic. No matter what happens, anywhere on the planet, and there is an actual expert who posts a full explaination, or description, or tells you why it can not possibly be what the "journalist" expert said.
A few years back Alamo Girl did a thread on the professions of Freepers. It was amazing!
Sounds like a Clown Pus*y post.
I agree...John Pod is SNARKY....and a slooooow talker.
You are right on target. I have stopped reading The Corner because of the twin smartasses Podhoretz and Derbyshire. Their insufferable elitism and pompousness are reminiscent of the self-assumed superiority of the Left.
Has DU changed anything but their pullups?
I agree with your assessment exactly. I love NRO and The Corner, and I read it every day, but JPod is the skunk at the garden party. I've written K-Lo several times when JPod was particularly nasty, but it doesn't seem to help. I still read it since there is so much greatness there, I just skip JPod's stuff in The Corner usually. His columns are rarely so obnoxious.
And, in the matter of the "assassination plot" theory that Horowitz is pushing, I'll go with Donald Rumsfeld and the Secret Service. They both said the uproar was over a whole lot of nothin'. But, don't let that stop you. You're free to believe any baseless, whackjob conspiracy theory you want.
Just look at what his profile is pushing.
If you have something on topic to say, then say it. If you would rather talk about the War on Drugs, then try this link. You're welcome.
"I'll have roast duck with the mango salsa."
<< .... FReepers are obsessive compulsive political junkies. ;-) >>
I'll drink to that!
NOISES OFF (MRS BA) "You'll drink to anything, Knuckle-Dragger!"
OK, I'll drink to those, too!
In my old working days, "knuckle-dragger" was something of a compliment.
<< In my old working days, "knuckle-dragger" was something of a compliment. >>
I like it still -- and also and with alacrity, answer to "Red-Neck!"
He's just jealous 'cause us knuckle draggers get all the bitchin' hot chicks. Quiche eaters need chardonnay to get the fat fugly ones drunk enough to take advantage of.
Thanks for defending the site.
Exactly why I try to keep my elitism, pomposity and self-assumed superiority sufferable.
Yes, there are "seminar posters", but I've seen some pretty outrageous things posted here and, often times, when posters try to chime in for civility they are pounced upon, their motives questioned etc. Of course, the liberal sites are just as bad if not worse, but you have to admit we have our share. I speak up, precisely because I don't want FR pointed to in that way. I've been berated on another thread for daring to suggest we refrain from personal attacks.
I dunno...the following excerpt is from Will Grigg of the John Birch Society. JBS is hardly what you would call liberal. Grigg is talking about the reactions on FR to comments bill orielly made about his interview with Jeremy Glick:
Hey mister, who gave you that shiner? Nobody gave it to me, son I fought for it.
Like nearly all the heroes brought to life by the pen of the incomparable Louis L'Amour, Conagher was an unpretentious man who fought when he had to, but only to defend the innocent and vindicate the claims of honor never to gratify his ego or in search of illicit gain. He had better things to do with his time than fighting, particularly when killing was involved.
Immortalized in the documentary Outfoxed, the Jeremy Glick segment clearly shows a bully getting the worst of a scrap he did everything to provoke. That's not how O'Reilly sees the episode when he replays it in the theater of his mind, of course.
I am glad I gave him what-for, he boasted to his Fox cohorts on The Lineup. I did give him what-for, you might remember that. I'm glad I did.
Imagine a High School senior boasting about fighting his eight-year-old sister to a draw, emerging from the tussle with a shiner while leaving the little girl's face unmarked, and you'd have a fair approximation of the repulsive spectacle O'Reilly offers.
Of course, from O'Reilly's perspective (which, to be fair, in his derangement is probably the version he really recalls), it was Glick who was out of control, a rampaging bully intimidating everybody on the set, and O'Reilly was ready really! -- to unload on him: If I could have whacked him, I would have.
At the time of the interview, O'Reilly's fan-boys at at Freerepublic.com sort of an on-line opium den for people hopelessly addicted to vicarious machismo were eager to play the part of schoolyard sycophants to the class bully.
I'd like to punch out the little POS! exclaimed one heroic Freeper. That Glick punk should be slapped silly, agreed a second. That kids needs a good punch! chimed a third. The best part was when they were going to commercial and the O'Reilly music came on -- Bill O'Reilly motioned to one of his guys off camera to throw the kid out! swooned yet another.
Yes, few things scream tough guy louder than gesturing to hired goons to deal with a small, well-mannered pacifist.
Few things better capture the Freeper syndrome better than this comment from the thread about the O'Reilly-Glick fracas: I was watching it. I could never do live TV. I would have been in a fistfight, and I would have won. I would have whupped his a--.
Conn Conagher a fictional character drawn faithfully on the model of thousands of real-life Americans wasn't inclined to boast about battle scars honorably won in single combat. Heroism as defined by O'Reilly and Freeper-style conservatives is a little less demanding.
Anyone recognize themselves?
