Lebanon says up to 600 killed in Israel's attacks [Jenin II?]

Lebanon says up to 600 killed in Israel's attacks

Lebanese Health Minister Mohammad Khalifeh says hospitals have received 401 bodies of people killed since fighting began; 'on top of those victims, there are 150 to 200 bodies still under the rubble,' he adds

Israeli warplanes and artillery hammered Lebanon again on Thursday and the Beirut government said up to 600 people may have been killed in Israel's 16-day-old campaign against Hizbullah terrorists.

Israel's inner cabinet chose to pursue a strategy of air strikes and limited ground incursions, rather than a full-scale invasion of Lebanon, to halt Hizbullah rocket fire on its towns.

Lebanese Health Minister Mohammad Khalifeh said hospitals had received 401 bodies of people killed during the war launched by Israel after the Shiite terrorists captured two of its soldiers and killed eight in a cross-border raid on July 12.

"On top of those victims, there are 150 to 200 bodies still under the rubble. We have not been able to pull them out because the areas they died in are still under fire," he told Reuters.

At least 437 people, most of them civilians, have been confirmed killed in Lebanon, according to a Reuters tally. Fifty-one Israelis, including 18 civilians, have been killed.

Bodies still lie in the streets in some isolated Lebanese border villages, where fighting has trapped terrified civilians, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said.

"In every fight, we are sheep for the slaughter," said Hafez Ebeid, 65, who had fled his border village of Marwaheen to the relative safety of Sidon, the biggest city in the south.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's security cabinet decided against a major expansion of the ground war at a meeting called a day after nine Israeli soldiers were killed in Lebanon, the army's heaviest one-day loss in the conflict.

Israel's army does not want to get bogged down in south Lebanon only six years after it pulled out under Hizbollah fire.

1,400 rockets

Dozens of Hizbullah rockets landed in northern Israel on Thursday, wounding four people. More than 1,400 rockets have hit the Jewish state since the conflict began.

The United States has given Israel the green light to pursue its assault on Lebanon by refusing to call for an immediate ceasefire or to allow the UN Security Council do so.

France said it was disappointed that an international conference in Rome on Wednesday had failed to call for an immediate end to hostilities and urged UN Security Council foreign ministers to meet early next week to work on a ceasefire resolution.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who visited Beirut and Jerusalem this week, said she would return to the Middle East if she believed she could clinch a lasting peace in Lebanon.

Her comments, made on arrival in Malaysia for a regional security conference, underlined Washington's intention not to press Israel to stop fighting until Hizbullah terrorists, backed by Iran and Syria, had been significantly weakened.

"I am willing and ready to go back to the Middle East at any time that I think we can move toward a sustainable ceasefire that can end the violence," Rice told a news conference.

With anger among Arabs and Muslims mounting over Israel's offensives in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, al-Qaeda declared it would not stand by, and urged Muslims to fight.

"How can we remain silent while watching bombs raining on our people?" asked the group's deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahri.

Apart from the dead, the Lebanese Health Ministry said 1,788 people had been seriously wounded in the fighting.

An ICRC report said one of its delegates had found about 700 people, including 300 children, sheltering in a mosque in Blida, a village near the embattled southern town of Bint Jbeil.

Burried in rubble

Other villages, running short of basic supplies, were living in fear. "Dead bodies had not been removed from the streets and others were still buried in rubble," the ICRC said.

Israeli planes destroyed radio masts north of Beirut and hit trucks in eastern Lebanon, killing three drivers, security sources said. Warplanes and artillery also blasted targets in the mainly Shi'ite south, killing a motorcyclist.

An opinion poll published on Thursday showed 95 percent of Israelis still believed the offensive in Lebanon was justified.

My response is to kill all the terrorists in Lebanon. Kill all the Hezbollah, or Hamas, or al-Qaeda, or Iranians or Syrians. If there are some moving around wounded, I would execute them. Lebanon ought to be grateful the IDF warns civilians to get out of dodge. This is war. You allowed your nation to be taken over by terrorists. You made your own bed. Live with the consequences of sponsoring state terrorism.

Dear Lebanon:

Terribly sorry about your innocent civilian casualties, but you have ceded your soveriegnty to Hezbollah, after all.

You do not control your own territory, and you have allowed Hezbollah to make war on Israel from within what SHOULD be your sovereign territory. Israel simply cannot allow this to continue, and since you are not legitimately a sovereign nation, it's not a violation of your soveriegnty when Israel comes in and kills off the vermin living in your southern tier.

Unfortunately, since Hezbollah is hiding in the midst of Lebanese people, hiding their rockets in the homes of civilians, wellllll..... let's just say that your civilians should stay as far away from their houses as possible for the next few weeks, and fewer of them will get hurt.

Oh, while you're at it... you might want to approach the Israelis about putting Lebanese troops on your southern border to protect your soveriegnty from Iran's "foriegn legion". I'm sure the Israelis would be happy to help you make that happen.

That's the simplest silution, IMHO.

..guess the motorcyclist in the south wasn't wearing his helmet....wait...oh yeah helmets can be hard to fit while wearing your Hesbo black turban and face scarf. One of the FOX reporters was saying he saw "terrified civilians" watching the bombing from their balconies..and a few "utes" getting caught up in the action deciding to join the masses running around in the streets....we've all saw numerous reports about bombings and IED's going off...ever notice the "terrified civilians" picking through the wreckage for keepsakes?

If you don't like this (and who blames you) go get control of your southern border. I had a friend who always rode with his drunk girl friend. One day, they wrecked and he was hurt. It wasn't her fault for hurting him, it was his fault for not taking control of his life. It's not an exact analogy but, close enough.

An Iranian volunteer in Tehran kisses the Koran before boarding a bus to Lebanon to join Hezbollah terrorists. Iran is sending hundreds of 'volunteers' into Lebanon. There are rumors that Iran is telling student they must volunteer or else they will lose their privilege of attending college in Iran. A better link is posted below to replace that lousy AP link:

Israel should take out the buses as they cross into Lebanon. Then put it in the press that any group of young men seen heading towards Southern Lebanon will be painted as possible targets.

That will end that quickly.

Real Crass. Take a look at the little four and five-year-olds with arms missing. They chose NO friends poorly.

Although I agree the statement may have been a bit crass..the little 4-5 year olds Mothers and Fathers and State Leaders DID CHOOSE for them.

Their actions against Israel is what causes the suffering of their children.

AMAZING PRECISION

Less than 1% of Beirut has been hit. Yet the MSM
will not present that because these have been ultra-precision
attacks against terrorists (and the civilian shields and UN toadies).

The black in the maps is what the Israelis have taken out.
The MSM focuses on the same buildings over and over.

Since the 2005 elections, Hizb'Allah controls at least
twenty-three seats in the 128-member Lebanese Parliament,
and has two ministers in the government, with a third is endorsed by the group.
With the bloc it forms with other groups, the "Resistance and Development Bloc",
the terrorists control circa 30% of the Lebanese gov't and current Cabinet.

Also, as terrorist Hassan Nasrallah admitted over televison yesterday:

"I said that we would abduct Israeli soldiers,
in meetings with some of the main political leaders in the country (Lebanon).
I don't want to mention names now, but when the time comes to settle accounts, I will."

When Hezbollah fails to separate itself from the population as required by the Geneva Convention, the blood of the human shields is on their hands, not the Israelis'.

WOW! What a view! You're absolutely right, watching various reports, if one didn't know better, one would think that all of Beruit/Lebanon looked like Dresden in WWII.

YOU grow up. War is hell. The people of Lebanon chose as friends, allies, and political leadership TERRORISTS. So when the bombs start falling, and their children are killed and maimed they have no one to blame but themselves.

given that cowardly Hizbollah vermin intermingle w/ civilians as a strategy, innocent civilian casualties will be higher than if dealing w/ non-muzzies.

Gee. Ya think an nation can wage a war without hurting anybody, including civilians? Esp. when the terrorists (who are part of Lebanon's ELECTED leadership BTW) are hiding amongst 'em?
There are some folks around here who need serious reality checks.
