NBC reporter Richard Engel sure has some severely selective sources. On the one hand, he's overflowing with information reinforcing the image of Hezbollah as a kindly humanitarian organization that was providing "supplies and relief" to the residents of Qana. On the other hand, he has "no evidence" that Hezbollah was using Qana residents as human shields for purposes of launching rockets.
Engel reported live from Tyre in southern Lebanon during this afternoon's 'The Most' on MSNBC, with host Alison Stewart. Speaking of events in Qana, Engel claimed:
"I got no indication [the people of Qana] were being held against their will. Just the opposite, it seemed Hezbollah was helping these people, providing them with food and water. These were some of the [poorest] people in the town, those with money had already left. They were staying in this section of town because there was food and water. Hezbollah were giving them supplies and relief."
But when it came to allegations that Hezbollah had cynically exploited the situation, Engel-the-fount-of-knowledge suddenly dried up: "Whether they [Hezbollah] took advantage of that to launch a rocket, I don't know. We didn't see evidence of that."
No evidence, really? So Engel didn't see or at least hear of the video screened yesterday by the IDF showing rocket launches from Qana? Makes you wonder who Engel's sources are.
An odd aside: Stewart actually asked Engel whether in southern Lebanon he saw "any anti-American sentiment."
Responded Engel, palpably shocked by Stewart's naivete: "Clearly. Everyone we came up to was expressing that sentiment very clearly. They were saying that it is American weapons that are being dropped on these villages and they believe that the US and Israel [are working] hand in hand."
Hope so.
Oh come on....guess video isn't proof enough....if that's true...we'll not believe one effin' thing on msnbc...
Yeah, not only has MSNBC been trying to portray Hezbollah as the Middle East version of the Salvation Army, but also CNN as well, with their bleeding-heart shows about all the good things that the terrorists are doing for their communities besides killing Jews.
I have seen some of his reports and I get the feeling sometimes that the bad guys are standing locked and loaded just off camera.
I repeatedly hear of the kindness and compassion shown by Muslims to their own. These 60 women and children (and a couple of guys, I guess, but they seem to be popping up off of their stretchers) are said to be the poorest and most helpless of all, yet no one of their "compassionate" neighbors would give any of them a lift out of town, not even the little ones. This just does not pass the smell test.
I can see it now.
The Qana civilians, after reading the warnings dropped by the IDF, asking, Should we go or should we stay?
The Hezb'Allah says, you must stay because we control all the water and food, and if you leave, you leave empty handed.
The Hezb'Allah says, don't be afraid, you will be safe.
Liars, liars, liars. The Hezb'Allah cannot protect the civilians. They, instead, use the civilians as shields, hoping that that the IDF will not bomb their civilian neighborhoods.
Surprise!
The Lebanese are either afraid or stupid. If they are afraid, they have learned a valuable lesson. And it is a lesson we all should take to heart. Don't allow a dangerous enemy to get a foot-hold in your country.
You will pay one way or another.
Well, duh, nobody says they are. Why do you think it’s only women and children in the shelter?? Because the men are out fighting. These are the Hezbollah terrorist’s families.
I've had many contacts with local media types in my hometown (Columbus Ohio). They are all empty heads, and all they can do is repeat the standard two-dimensional truism that is delivered from the national news desk or from AP/ Reuters/ CNN. On every issue, all then can do (because they simply do not have the mental candle-power to do any better) is follow the reigning paradigm. I have had much less contact with media at the national level, but I suspect that the same is true there also. My point is that they are not so much wicked as weak; they simply cannot imagine anything like what Qana really was, namely, an instance of a hideous, evil war crime and staged media event.
The journalist was asked if he had seen any Hezballah in the area and he said "no - only civilians".
A few minutes later he was saying that you couldn't tell who the Hezballah members were because they didn't wear uniforms.
So.....just how did he know he hadn't seen any Hezballah members???
I guess you must be a liberal to know the answer to that question.
So if Engel doesn't actually SEE a rocket about to be launched, then to him there is "no evidence".
There WERE no living people trapped there on account of a lack of any means of departure. The bodies pulled out from the rubble where placed there earlier in the day, corpses transported from a morgue to a new TV sound stage, so to speak.
Another thing: is Engel there at the behest of the Hezzies? Is he given access to places and people through the Hezzies, and thus he speaks only statements that he thinks will not p*ss off his hosts?
I want to know where the Lebanese Army is. I want to know why they aren't getting these people evacuated. Everyone was ready to criticize the U.S. government for not evacuating people from New Orleans prior to Katrina, so I want to know why the Lebanese government hasn't seen fit to make sure these civilians are removed from an area they know is going to be bombed by the Israelis. The Lebanese government has let their people down. By not protecting them, they have worked hand in hand with the Hezzies.
