THANKS Jelly Jam for that update.
I'll add this one here, too.
"Plane plot involved 'explosive cocktail,' official says
Air travel in chaos after plot to bomb airliners exposed"
Thursday, August 10, 2006; Posted: 5:53 p.m. EDT (21:53 GMT)
WASHINGTON (CNN) --
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Two of the suspects recently traveled to Pakistan and later received money wired from there, senior U.S. government sources said.
Among those arrested were a Muslim charity worker and a Heathrow Airport employee with an all-area access pass, according to Britain's Channel 4.
The suspects were planning to stage a test run within a couple of days, said a U.S. intelligence official."
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A senior congressional source said it is believed the plotters planned to mix a British sports drink with a gel-like substance to make a potent explosive that could be ignited with an MP3 player or cell phone." (
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The sports drink could be combined with a peroxide-based paste to form a potent "explosive cocktail," if properly done, said a U.S. counterterrorism official.
"There are strong reasons to believe the materials in a beverage like that could have been part of the formula," the official said.
As many as 50 people were involved in the plot, an internal Department of Homeland Security document said, and raids continued in Britain late Wednesday."
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Pakistani authorities also made arrests in coordination with Britain, said a spokesman for the Pakistani Foreign Ministry. He did not say how many arrests were made.
Two of the suspects left "martyrdom tapes," according to sources familiar with the details of the British investigation."
THANKS for the update regarding the camera, JP.
Well, I guess the guy was not one of the Egyptians. I just read where the Egyptians arrived in late July at JFK -we arrived on August 4 at Newark.
Well now Mr. Noble, when these gentlemen get home, they can write an essay, "WHAT I DID ON MY SUMMER VACATION."
*A BIOCHEMIST, a Heathrow airport security worker and the son of a former Tory party worker were being held by police last night.
*Arrests made during the morning included Waheed Zaman, a biochemistry student, and Amin Asmin Tariq, a Heathrow security worker. Mr Zaman, who sat on London Metropolitan Universitys Student Council as a representative of the Islamic Society, is well known in the community.
*Mr Tariq, who has been working at Heathrow for three years, was led away in handcuffs early yesterday morning, according to witnesses. He wears Western clothes and is well-respected in the community, according to neighbours.
*the Raufs, who run a cake distribution business.
*June Lethbridge, 85, said that a family had lived at the property adjacent to her for 12 years but she did not know how many were residents. Theyve always been very pleasant. As far as I know, most of the family are in Pakistan for a wedding at the moment.
Thank you Ms. Letbridge for letting us know there was a "WEDDING" coming up....imagine that.
Betcha they'll celebrate and have a big meal there.

U.S.-Iraqi Forces Target Baghdad Death Squads
By Gerry J. Gilmore
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Aug. 9, 2006 U.S. troops and Iraqi security forces have stepped up operations in Baghdad to curtail deadly sectarian violence thats plagued the city in recent months, a senior U.S. military officer told reporters in Baghdad today.
Of 11 operations targeting death squads in Iraq over the past week, 10 were centered in or around Baghdad, Army Maj. Gen. William B. Caldwell, spokesman for Multinational Force Iraq, said at a news briefing.
The Baghdad operations were undertaken to quell the surge of extremists seeking to exert control and impose their narrow, divisive view of the future of Iraq, Caldwell said.
Some Shiite and Sunni factions have used death squads to intimidate others. Some senior U.S. military leaders have warned that the violence could spiral out of control. However, the United States government has vowed not to allow that to happen.
Iraqi security forces and coalition forces continue to disrupt the terrorists and set the stage for Baghdadis to live stable lives, Caldwell said.
U.S. and Iraqi forces continue searches to unearth enemy weapons caches, including 25 such stockpiles found last week, Caldwell said. More than 200 improvised explosive devices were found and cleared that week and 301 anti-Iraqi forces were captured.
U.S. and Iraqi security forces in Baghdad have been targeting kidnappers and corrupt police who help them, Caldwell said.
The death squads and other extremists operating in Baghdad continue to use religious sites to store munitions and launch attacks, Caldwell said. A recent Iraqi army cordon-and-search operation at a Baghdad mosque site turned up IED-making equipment, rocket-propelled grenades and AK-47 rifles.
Yet, arms alone cant win the war against anti-Iraqi extremists, Caldwell pointed out. Iraqi civilians need to get involved, he said, since death squad members seek to submerge themselves among the populace.
Iraqi citizens have to report information, he said. Theyre going to have to be part of the solution.
My husband and I discussed that this morning.
I was hoping that ALL train;subways and bus
security would be upped.
Add to that that everyone is a tad jumpy.
Good to know.
Yep, with a cake and candles perhaps.
Was hoping we'd hear from you today. :-)
Just heard Chertoff talking about how difficult the "last few days" have been.
Anything else that you can share about the goings on?
Gotta watch those candles.
(There's a cartoon in my head.)
The threat has not yet passed. A great deal of scrambling going on behind the scenes.
Thanks, I was afraid of that.
Well, you know, the old cartoons where the cartoon character is bending over the table, blowing out the candles, and then...Kaboom!
That's probably not a wedding cartoon.
the first wave of bombings was to have targeted five aircraft leaving British airports in the next few days. The destinations, US officials said, were New York, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago and Los Angeles. The plotters are said to have studied the timetables of three US airlines: American, Continental and United.
Security sources said that a second wave of attacks had been considered, with as many as 12 aircraft to be attacked.
I didn't know about Boston and Chicago.
THANK YOU Velveeta.
These are the names of 19 suspects reportedly being held by the police after the foiled plot and whose assets the Treasury has sought to have frozen.

Makes me wonder still about the Egyptians.
One was caught in Chicago at O'Hare airport.
ROFL, no...probably not a wedding cartoon that we're used to.
Good to see you as well. I don't have time to post as often as I used to but I do check in to TM every single day, first thing.
Is there a state they haven't infiltrated? I feel like we're slowly losing our country.
The heightened security was definitely noticeable this evening. You're right, we don't know that this plot involved planes only. So many people on commuter rails and subways carry drinks on board, especially in the summer.
Inside job. We have to start screening the screeners.
Amazing how they ALL fit the typical terrorist profile.
Gee, not a Lutheran name in the bunch. Who'd a thunk it"
I haven't had any luck changing my son's flight at this point... and the day hasn't gotten any better- an Islamic Center has rented space a block from my house :(
Does anyone have an estimate on what percentage of the US population is Muslim? Someone told me it was over 25%.
I just googled it. Researchers say anywhere from 5 to 8 million in the U.S.
Okay, looks like I got my numbers messed up. It's the growth rate that is 25%, and I imagine that number is old, and doesn't reflect the energizing effect of 9/11 upon the growth rate.
This table below shows the growth of Islam:
The growth of Islam between 1989-1998:
N. America 25%
Latin America -4.73%
Sources: 'Dry Run' of the attacks planned for this weekend
Give me a break. This, from one of the terrorists' neighbors:
"I know five of the men very well and they are really respectable young Muslim men," Qadir added. "
You're shocked, I tell ya.
Keep trying to change the flight - although at this point, the plot may be thwarted enough.
Praying for the safe return of your son.
Yeah, all the really respectable young muslim men make martyr videos.
Are you going into the city tomorrow?
Let us know how security is.
Has anybody seen the Fruit Vendor lately?
Yes. I'll be going in tomorrow. The security was actually stepped up on NJ Transit earlier this evening. The fruit vendor still in the same spot, though the stand has changed hands (or should I say turbans) several times.
I wonder if we'll ever hear the entire story.
Tonight by the Blue Ridge Parkway there were more 'police' cars than I have seen in the entire past five years. There had to be at least ten of them in a ten mile segment.
What is happening in the cities? Similar?
BREAKING NEWS Salem Police Locate Third Suspected Bomb
(SALEM ) - Salem area bomb teams have responded to a third report of a suspicious explosive device today. Police Lt. Debbie Baker says the device was located by a passing motorist at Woodside Drive and Jon Mart in South Salem.
Baker says their police bomb team disrupted this one, which is a term used when officers try to breech the bomb. "Sometimes they explode, sometimes it goes better."
She says law enforcement in Salem is very concerned. This is the third suspected bomb found in Salem today, and so far none of them appear to be fake.(snip)
Lots of police visible here in DC, but that's usually the case... I am not sure I noticed anything different today, but I skipped out on the subway.
"Terror suspects' assets frozen
From correspondents in London"
August 11, 2006 01:46pm
Article from: Agence France-Presse
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "THE Bank of England, Britain's central bank, has frozen the accounts of 19 of the 24 men arrested in a alleged terror plot, and publicly released their names."
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The 19 men named by the Bank of England were Ahmed Abdula Ali, Cossor Ali, Khuram Shazad Ali, Nabeel Hussain, Tanvir Hussain, Umair Hussain, Umar Islam, Wassem Kayani, Abdullah Assan Khan, Arafat Waheed Khan, Adam Osman Khatib, Muneem Abdul Patel, Tayib Rauf, Usman Muhammed Saddique, Assad Sarwar, Ibrahim Savant, Asmin Amin Tariq, Mohammed Shamin Uddin, and Waheed Zaman."
You're welcome Cindy - in light of today's news, one would hope the MSM and many liberals "get a clue." There were terrorist attacks on America and Americans years before we were involved in Iraq.
