Schwarzenegger Hears Rumbles From the Right
LAT ^ | Aug. 18, 2006 | Michael Finnegan

Conservatives see some of the governor's stands as liberal. If too few vote, his reelection could be threatened.

Schwarzenegger faces no danger of a broad defection of conservatives to his Democratic challenger, state Treasurer Phil Angelides; polls show they overwhelmingly favor the governor.

But their tense alliance with Schwarzenegger, combined with a foul election climate for Republicans nationwide, could spell a low conservative turnout in the Nov. 7 election. And if what is now a wide Schwarzenegger lead over Angelides narrows after Labor Day, as many analysts expect, low conservative turnout will loom as a key peril for the governor and a prime source of hope for Democrats.

Let me repeat:

low conservative turnout will loom as a key peril for the governor and a prime source of hope for Democrats.

Conservatives take note -- do you REALLY want to see Angelides elected and do you really want to be RESPONSIBLE for it?

You can say that again! And again! Hopefully it sinks in.

But he is a log cabin republican.

In order to receive that endorsement, he has to sign a contract with the LCRs to bring forth their agenda.

LCR agenda is just like the VictoryFund agenda and receives monies from the same source, David Mixner.

David Mixner headed up the Vietnam Moratorium and was a leading anti-Vietnam War activist.

David Mixner was also Bill Clinton's gay advisor and is now McGreevey's gay advisor.

Why does Schwarzenegger have to seek out the LCR endorsement?

"combined with a foul election climate for Republicans nationwide,"

The MSM is soo damn predictable. Every frickin election, its the same "Republicans are falling apart at the seems!" crapola trying to influence the elections.

Conservatives see some of the governor's stands as liberal...

...and the rest as merely left of center.

Arnold VETOED the homosexual marriage bill, he also said he will veto the homosexual education in schools bill.

Angelides said he will sign those bills.

So whom do you think conservatives should support, Arnold or Angelides? THAT is the choice, the ONLY choice.

(Most disturbing to many conservatives has been his stand on illegal immigration: Though the governor has put National Guard troops on the border and blocked driver's licenses for illegal immigrants, he supports a guest worker program and a path to citizenship for those who pay taxes, learn English and wait behind legal immigrants. "It's just one more policy issue where he's out of step with conservatives," Spence said.)

If that's true, I would side with Schwartzenegger on this one even though I am conservative. It sounds like he's got a common sense defensible position.

That is Arnold's position. He even praised the Minutement multiple times. Angelides can't wait to sign the drivers licenses to illegals, if he gets elected.

And the veto was a great step. Now he needs to drop the LCR endorsement because he is under contract to bring those initiatives to the table.

Listen to me. You sign a CONTRACT for their endorsement.

He needs to take a stand and not take their money. You sign a contract to get that money.

I haven't read anything about Arnold signing a contract with them. What makes you think he did sign one -- I can't believe it.

Greater concern: does low conservative turnout mean passage of all the bond issues ?

>>>>Log Cabin endorsed and campaigned for Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 2003 recall election and continues to support his efforts to bring people together to build an even brighter future for the great state of California.<<<<

With LCR, you have to apply for the funds. The board of LCR puts you through a qualification process. If accepted, you sign a contract. You recieve a LCR campaign advisor. You have a score card of initiatives to put their on behalf of LCR.

Schwarzenegger needs to SEPARATE himself from LCR.

"does low conservative turnout mean passage of all the bond issues ?"

====

That's another excellent point and a reason for conservatives to get out and vote.

But conservatives stayed home and didn't bother to vote in the special elections, when they had to chance to pass the conservative reform propositions.

From your link:

"Log Cabin presented Schwarzenegger with its Ronald Reagan Award. This award recognizes those individuals who maintain a big tent philosophy by working for the inclusion of all Americans in the Republican Party. The award is named after former California Governor and President Ronald Reagan for his leadership in helping defeat the 1978 Briggs Initiative. This proposal would have barred openly gay and lesbian people from teaching in California public schools. Reagan's courageous opposition to this anti-gay initiative inspired the founding of Log Cabin Republicans in California 30 years ago. The evening also looked back at the 30 year history of Log Cabin.
"

Looks like they liked Reagan too -- does that make Reagan bad?

Well then I guess he'd better start governing like a Republican.

Conservatives take note -- do you REALLY want to see Angelides elected and do you really want to be RESPONSIBLE for it?

Oh, I see! Arnold appoints leftist Democrats to office, borrows like a drunk, chokes Republican small business and landowners with regulations, publicly states he may endorse DEMOCRATS for office, but his Republican victims are responsible for not supporting it?

Um, methinks Arnold is responsible for his performance as governor.

Sheesh.

Bray Davis was successfully recalled for the same things Angelides promises to do. If it happens again, a conservative victory riding the resulting referenda is far more likely, particularly if the $200 BILLION in public employee healthcare costs Arnold has done nothing about comes to light...

That is, it will be a conservative victory if the likes of you don't deliberately sabotage it, again.

Now, let's take a look at that, shall we? Name ONE thread you have started for the sole purpose of promoting a down-ticket conservative candidate.

Name one.

I'm reading that too. Reagan helped defeat Senator John Briggs initiative to ban homosexual teachers from becoming teachers.

I don't know if Reagan just supported that initiative or if he was a Log Cabin Republican.

Regardless, the contract for endorsement has to go.

Sure, so the overwhelmingly Dem electorate can defeat him and get Angelides elected. What a brilliant idea (/sarc)

Governor walking fine line with Republicans, independents

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1685651/posts

If he gives core Republicans what they want he'll alienate the moderates who could give him his re-election.

This leaves him with one vital need as he gets set to begin his fall re-election campaign in earnest: Schwarzenegger probably cannot win this fall without near-unanimous support from his party's conservative base. In fact, he can't win if any significant number of those voters stay home.

But he also can't win unless he attracts a majority of the moderate, independent voters who in ever-increasing numbers lately have been registering to vote without declaring a party preference. Play to one of these audiences and you may lose the other.

=====

No matter how you try to twist things -- the choice is Arnold or Angelides.

The Dems are COUNTING on the conservatives to stay home or vote third party to get Angelides elected.

Do conservatives really want to cut their nose to spite their face? I don't think so.

People attacking Arnold know full well, that helps Angelides and are NO CONSERVATIVES, regardless of their pretense.

Ya know, this really needs to get back into RNC's lap.

Instead of battling over bad and worse, why is the LCR allowed to function under a RNC umbrella?

Many conservatives like myself just refuse to live in CA (aka PRK) therefore no votes. My company has been trying to get me to move there for several years now. I have been polite in explaining to them that I think the act of voluntarily surrounding ones self with socialists is an act of stupidity and is incredibly self-destructive. They just look at me with a confused look and then try the arm twisting again a week later. I feel sorry for conservatives in CA, but I would vote with my feet and leave.
