PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President and Mrs. Bush are spending the weekend at Camp David. Look for the First Lady to be on the campaign trail a lot in the next few months. Republican National Committee spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt said that Mrs. Bush is a significant draw wherever she goes, and is a critical asset to Republican candidates across the country. According to the RNC, so far this campaign season, the First Lady has appeared at 24 political events and raised $10.7 million for the party and Republican candidates. Last week, she campaigned in Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia.

THE WEEK AHEAD: Next week's daily scheduled was not announced by White House Press Secretary Tony Snow. However, next week the President will visit his family home in Kennebunkport, Maine, for the first time in two years. GWB and the First Lady are scheduled to arrive Thursday at Walker's Point, where they will be spending the weekend with GWB's parents at their summer retreat. The first couple will be in town to attend a relative's wedding, said Tom Frechette, spokesman for the president's father. While at Walker's Point, the President typically goes fishing and golfing.

EXTENDED SCHEDULE:

_ Sept. 7, First Lady Laura Bush will visit Norfolk to attend a campaign rally for U.S. Rep. Thelma Drake.

_ Sept. 14, President Bush will welcome President Roh Moo-hyun of the Republic of Korea to the White House.

_ Oct. 10, President Bush will welcome President Alan Garcia of Peru to the White House.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the President's Radio Address earlier today,

On Tuesday, I went to the National Counterterrorism Center, where I was briefed by the fine professionals who work day and night to protect our Nation from terrorist attacks. Their efforts are vital, as we saw with the recent terrorist plot to destroy airliners headed for America.

I thanked the men and women of the intelligence community for all they did to help the British government uncover and disrupt this vicious plot. This attempted attack is a reminder to us all: The terrorists remain determined to destroy innocent life on a massive scale, and we must be equally determined to stop them.

On Friday, I met with my economic advisors at Camp David, where we discussed our efforts to keep our economy growing and creating jobs. Our economy has created more than 5.5 million new jobs since August of 2003, more jobs than Japan and the 25 nations of the European Union combined. The unemployment rate is 4.8 percent. The productivity of America's workers is rising, and our economy grew at a strong annual rate of 4 percent during the first half of 2006.

PHOTO OF THE DAY: President Bush bows his head in prayer at the annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington.

BELIEVE
lyrics from the Brooks & Dunn song

I can't quote the book
The chapter or the verse
You can't tell me it all ends
In a slow ride in a hearse
You know I'm more and more convinced
The longer that I live
Yeah, this can't be
No, this can't be
No, this can't be all there is

(Chorus) When I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to this than just what I can see
I believe
Oh, I
I believe

"When it comes to securing our homeland, and helping people along the coast, the Coast Guard has got a vital and significant mission," said the President in his remarks at nearby Southern Maine Technical College. "And, therefore, the budget that I send to the United States Congress will have the largest increase in spending for the Coast Guard in our nation's history."

Thanks for the Dose, Wolfstar. What a great theme--again! You are great at putting together a Dose when there aren't new photos. It is always a pleasure and also very poignant to see GWB with the troops. I love this photo of them grabbing his hand/arm. Gives me goosebumps.

Thanks again!
